We heard through the grapevine that classmate Bruce Busby had a heart attack last week. Bruce, who lives in Seattle and ‘builds rockets’ for a living, is back to work and feeling much better. Please keep Bruce in your thoughts as he adjusts to life with fewer superpowers!

Thanks to Kari Pinard for the head’s up about this event featuring classmate Doug Shimomura’s father. It would be great to see some CV’78’ers there…the Beavs are away and play at 12:30 that day so no game-day traffic excuses! Kari posted:

Yukio Shimomura will be presenting: My 2.5 Years Behind Barbed wire, at the Corvallis library at 3pm on Oct 4th.
For those of us that fondly remember Yukio Shimomura as one of the original transfers from Cupertino to Corvallis in 1976 (HR Staffing) and everyone else, this is a must see presentation. Our current national policy strife rhymes with the WWII actions against our fellow citizens of Japanese heritige. What it was like to be treated as the “other” in our nations history is an important lesson to current actions affecting populations being forcibly removed without due process.

We were talking with Tom Leeland last month and he asked about classmate Frank Leistner. Frank was an AFS exchange student from Germany and Tom met him when they sat next to one another at Commencement. Frank was on the Soccer, Swimming, and Track teams our senior year and was great at staying in contact with us for reunion news. He submitted an update for our 30-year Reunion Biography Book in 2008. When we Googled him though, we were sad to learn that he had died in August 2013. He was the author of two books on Knowledge Management and a highly-regarded IT professional for multi-national companies.

Here is the latest news from the CVHS Class of 1980 on their 45-year reunion events:

*SCHEDULE UPDATE*
Friday July 18 -- we will meet at Sky High Brewing starting at 5:00ish
Saturday July 19 -- Crescent Valley High School picnic/hangout 11:30 to 2:00ish. The school is closed for the summer, but we have permission to have a picnic in the quad area (BYO food and beverage). We will not have access to the buildings until the current principal comes to give us a tour at 1:45, so we are looking into a porta-potty and handwashing station (we'll need some donations to cover the rental). We will need to remove our own trash and alcohol is not permitted on the school grounds.
Saturday evening is unscheduled, but we are invited to join the CHS alums at Peacocks, and there are many other venues to patronize for large or small groups.

The father of CV ‘78 classmate, Doug Shimomura, is featured in this video giving recollections of his experiences as a child in an US interment camp during WW II.

This is the second time we bumped into CV’78 classmate Kaye (Kahldahl) Turner in the past six months and this time we remembered to take a photo for the class page! Kaye teaches Math at LBCC and lives near Lebanon. Great to see you, Kaye!

We enjoyed crossing paths with CV 78 classmates: the lovely Lynn (Steele) Shearmire, Jenne (Wirfs) Grant, and Ann (Merrill) Eiden, at the Oregon State baseball game today. Great to see you, ladies!

We drove with Kathy (Peters) Dooley to Gaston to visit with classmate Dan O’Toole today. All three of us grew up in the same neighborhood and it was fun to reminisce about the old days. Big Dan lost his beloved wife, Kitty, last summer after a long, difficult battle with cancer and it’s been a tough few months for him. We hope he will join us for the next reunion in July 2028 so others can enjoying catching up with him as much as we did!
