As we reflect on fiscal year 2026, which ended on June 30, we’re grateful to our community of donors, alumni, parents, colleagues and friends for their commitment to the university.

A 70-foot blue whale now towers over Oregon State University’s Hatfield Marine Science Center. 🐋

What began when a blue whale washed ashore on the Oregon coast in 2015 has become a permanent educational display. One of only a handful of blue whale skeletons on public display in North America, it is the only one between Vancouver, British Columbia, and the San Francisco Bay Area.

If you're visiting Newport this summer, don't miss the chance to see it. This display is the result of years of preservation, restoration and collaboration led by researchers at OSU’s Marine Mammal Institute, with support from generous donors, community volunteers and partners across Oregon State University and the OSU Foundation.

College of Agricultural Sciences - Oregon State University Oregon Sea Grant

Students from Yamhill County will have even more support on their path to an Oregon State degree thanks to the generosity of the Austin Family Foundation and OSU alumni Scott and Loni Parrish.
 
These new scholarship gifts will help students with financial need stay on track to graduate, including support through Oregon State’s Finish in Four initiative and retention and completion grants for students in the Colleges of Business and Engineering.

Katharine Jefferts Schori, a two-time Oregon State alumna and oceanographer who later became head of the global Episcopal Church, received an honorary doctorate at the 2026 commencement celebration in June: the highest award bestowed by the university, given to individuals of distinction who exemplify OSU’s core values.

We wish everyone in Beaver Nation a safe and happy Independence Day! As we reflect on the holiday, we’re grateful to all who have served and to supporters who invest in the futures of those continuing that legacy.

One such example is Bob Jossis, ’70, and Cathy Jossis, who created a scholarship for veterans and active-duty military students in Oregon State University’s School of Civil and Construction Engineering in honor of two World War II veterans: their fathers (pictured here). Their gift recognizes lives marked by service, discipline and resilience while helping military-connected students pursue an Oregon State education.
