Dear Madam,

I'm very upset and concerned to read that for the second year, the FFA students at Santiam Christian school will be participating in a "Pass the Pig" fundraiser.

For two days, two piglets are sent around from one business to the next asking for donations.

This practice jeopardizes the animal's welfare, subjecting them to unnecessary travel, human handling, and unfamiliar environments.

This fundraiser has been eliminated at the university level because of its blatant disregard for animal welfare.

I ask you to STOP this careless and unnecessary fundraiser.

Sincerely,

Chantal Buslot

Santiam Christian is a fully accredited interdenominational Preschool - 12th Grade School. We're excited that you are looking us over! There's a lot to learn about Santiam Christian Schools.

First, we really are four schools in one: Preschool, Elementary, Junior High and High School. All of our students share our beautiful 18 acre campus, just north of Corvallis. We'd love for you to come for a visit! At Santiam Christian, we see ourselves partnering with parents, in the Christian upbringing of their children. The educational experience at SC is distinctively Christian, while offering

Ahhh! Friday Night Lights! Wait, it was Thursday!

While the schedule is unusual, there is something pretty magical about being back under the football lights this year. There was nearly a sigh of relief in the air as the first game of the season kicked off. Attaway, Eagles!

A big challenge to high school sports this year is the lack of referees. The shortage is staggering to programs all around the state. Not only is this a problem for varsity sports, but JV, JH and youth sports, as well. Do you or a family member know your way around the volleyball court, soccer or football field? Would you be willing to invest some time into getting kids back into sports and activities? Please consider contacting our Athletic Director, Jay Barton, for more information on how you can help!!

We love our Eagle teams, not just because we love sports, but because we love our kids. We’re excited for them to be able to play again and to be able to watch them do what they love!

GO EAGLES!

It’s that time of year when everyone is frantically shopping for the back-to-school clothes that will define their new “look” for fall. Mr. Cook, HS Humanities and Bible teacher, is looking for a new look, too!

Actually, if you know Joseph Cook, he’s not really searching for a new look, in fact, he personifies the idea of a “Steady Freddy.” We’re thrilled to be here this week, preparing to start school in a way that parents and students can count on. We want to be a Steady Freddy for our families, while the world is anything but steady.

We love this time of year and we can’t wait to see our kids again!!

Welcome back, Eagles!!

Introducing Dr. Lance Villers, Ed D

Our beloved SC Superintendent has done it! He finished his EdD!

On the last day that faculty was on campus, we held a surprise “graduation” to honor Dr. Villers’ accomplishment. While dressing up and being the center of attention is the opposite of a good time for this quiet man, even he was smiling and willing to ham it up just a bit to celebrate the culmination of his years of hard work.

While this was a “mock” graduation ceremony, it is with true admiration and appreciation that we recognize the depth of knowledge and dedication that Dr. Villers chooses to share with our Eagle Family. We are blessed by his leadership in so many, many ways.

So, when the question is asked, “Is there a doctor in the house?”
The answer is definitely, “YES!”

Congratulations!!!

The SC Class of 2021 has officially finished!

This past weekend graduates donned their gowns and then tossed their caps. It was a celebration that looked back over the past 15 years that some of them have spent in our halls, a look over the last year, with its wins and its losses, and a look ahead to the plans God has for them.

Valedictorian, Ian Wang, and salutatorian, Seliah Greene, spoke with eloquence, wisdom and genuine hope that is founded in the love of our Father. Our Timothian award recipients, Ashley Miller, Joshua Baugher and Hannah Schaefer, were recognized by their classmates and faculty for their character and their evident walk and trust in Jesus.

We are exceedingly proud of these young people. We are honored that their parents trusted Santiam Christian to be their partner and walk with them in the Christian upbringing of their most precious ones.

Congratulations, Class of 2021! We pray that we will see you again soon, and when we do, that you will tell us that you are abiding in our Lord. That is our greatest hope for you.

Last night Santiam Christian celebrated Baccalaureate with the Class of 2021.

Hosted by Willamette Community Church and Pastor Scott Miller, graduates and their immediate family gathered for some tender time together. Baccalaureate provided parents and the 50 graduates of the class of 2021 a time to gratefully look back, and also to ask God’s blessing as they look ahead. The service included many special moments that are sure to be treasured.

The welcome was given by Sophie Sparks and the Call to Worship, by Hannah Schaefer. A senior class worship team led the congregation in poignant worship. Class Advisor, Leiah Greene, shared some precious memories and hopes for the future. Seniors, Josh Baugher and Ashley Miller, were selected by their classmates to share their thoughts. Senior band members, Anna Eby, Shiloh Gallaher, Ann Livingston and Seliah Greene, shared their rendition of Chameleon, by Herbie Hancock, arr. Lopez.

SC Superintendent, Lance Villers, emphasized the power in making strong SMALL decisions, among other points of wisdom. And, senior parents, JennyAnn Sparks and Travis Boshart, asked a blessing over these 50 students.

While graduation is still to come, Santiam Christian treasures this last time to worship all together with our kids. Baccalaureate is more than just a service or tradition to us. It is a celebration of all the times we’ve worshipped together before, and a reminder that our hope for these precious ones’ future is in God’s hands.

We’re feeling pretty CHEERful about SC CHEER!!!

In a year of unusual seasons and changes, the SCHS Cheer team is keeping things the same! THEY ARE THE STATE CHAMPS AGAIN!! That makes the THIRD YEAR IN A ROW!

Competitions this year had to be recorded and had specific requirements that, for our team, included no stunting in their routine. Those coordinated lifts have been SC crowd pleasers and one of their team strengths. With this change, they upped their jumping and tumbling “game,” bringing even more state champion level skills to the mat.

We’re thankful to the OCCA that was able to keep cheer going strong.

ATTAWAY, EAGLE CHEER!!!

PS – Check out the video of their routine. The girls are terrific and the SC mural makes a fabulous background, too! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYdJF6hpJj8

Hospitality is built in!

When you call or visit the SC main office or business office you’re greeted by one of these two ladies. Michelle and Cathy must’ve started practicing their hospitality in a little house like this one! We love them and are grateful for the way they serve our Eagle Family with such kindness!

This sweet, little playhouse is just one of the 500+ items available for you in our annual SC Auction. You’re invited to browse items starting Friday, May 14, at 9am, and you can start your shopping Saturday, May 15, at 9am!

Mrs. Alexander from our elementary library says, “This chair really ROCKS!” after trying out this antique rocking chair made by Nichols & Stone Co. It is just one of the 500+ items available in our SC Auction. She gave it a try while reading to some of our littlest eagles during their visit to the library this week.

And, wouldn’t this word art sign be the perfect gift to give someone like Mrs. Preston? After all, she is one of our very most favorite people in the history of EVER!

The SC Auction is a fun way to shop for gifts and things you might use yourself, while supporting families who need some financial assistance for their kids to attend Santiam Christian.

The auction preview opens TOMORROW at 9am, and the actual auction opens on Saturday at 9am.

In 2001 Carla Towery started in kindergarten at SC. After all this time, Carla is moving on!

When students come back to visit the campus, it is often Mrs. Towery’s kindergarten class that they want to stop into. She will say, “My, how you’ve grown” as she looks up into their grown-up faces. Almost without fail she somehow remembers who they are, in spite of the teeth they were missing and dramatic size difference from when they were in her class.

Mrs. Towery still only towers over her kinder-kiddos. Small in stature, she throws a big shadow that has led many an SC graduate to pursue early childhood education as their dream. They remember her inventive passion, enthusiasm and joy for all things kindergarten.

Come join us as we celebrate Carla’s retirement! Mark your calendars for Friday, June 4, 12-2pm, on the elementary lawn.

If you're unable to join us, please send a note to the elementary office.

Meet our Senior Superstar: Hailee Johnson

The SC Class of 2021 are SUPERSTARS! Meet them through the eyes of those who know them best, their parents.

What is your favorite high school memory of Hailee?

Hailee hasn’t pitched since her 8th grade year, so when she was asked to pitch for the opening game of her senior year against her old school. I could tell she was incredibly nervous. But I was proud how she faced the challenge, and came out feeling proud of how well she did.

What Bible verse has been meaningful for you as Hailee has grown up? Is there a special verse that has impacted or describes your relationship with her?

Proverbs 13:22

What gifts and talents does Hailee possess that will enable her to be successful after high school?

Hailee has the perfect balance of a very kind and competitive heart. She will approach challenges in life with Grace, while maintaining the proper amount of confidence to accomplish whatever she wants to pursue.

Meet our Senior Superstar: Elizabeth Schlosser

The SC Class of 2021 are SUPERSTARS! Meet them through the eyes of some of those who know them best.

What is your favorite high school memory of Elizabeth?

Throughout Elizabeth’s years at Santiam she has truly blossomed to the young lady she is now. She started out as a shy and quiet girl, but through her friendships and stepping outside of her comfort zone at school, she has shined bright to become social and take risks.

What Bible verse has been meaningful for you as Elizabeth has grown up? Is there a special verse that has impacted or describes your relationship with her?

God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. 2 Corinthians 9:8

What gifts and talents does Elizabeth possess that will enable her to be successful after high school?

Elizabeth is strong in her faith. It is very important to her. So are her friendships, she is almost over at Emma or Ann’s homes every weekend, bringing movies or driving to Portland just to go to Chick-fil-a. She is very caring and loves her dog Oakley.
