Today is the 40th anniversary of the Challenger disaster.

The Challenger shuttle crew of seven astronauts died tragically in the explosion of their spacecraft during the launch of STS-51L from NASA's Kennedy Space Center on January 28, 1986.

As we prepare for our Artemis missions to and around the Moon, it's important that we honor members of the NASA family who lost their lives while furthering the cause of exploration and discovery. It is vital that we stay vigilant and implement the lessons of the past in our preparations.

OreSat0.5, an open source 2U CubeSat built by students at Portland State University is set to launch tomorrow 8/16 at 11:16am PST. The satellites will fly on the SpaceX Transporter-11 mission, , which is a Falcon 9 flying out of Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. OSGC 2022-23 STARR awardee Logan Switzer has been selected to participate in the Research for Undergraduate Program at CERN! Congratulations Logan! We're excited to see him take on the physics wonders at CERN this summer.

Logan Switzer '25 will spend Summer 2024 in Switzerland as one of 15 undergraduates from the U.S. selected for an internship at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research.
