Big feelings need a little help.

Young children are still learning how to manage their emotions, and they often need a calm, caring adult to help them get there. That’s co-regulation.

Your patience, comfort and steady presence help them feel safe, settle their bodies and, over time, build the skills to regulate their own emotions.

We are NOW enrolling up to two more children aged 3-5 to help balance out our mixed age group. We offer full day preschool and childcare, in our Reggio Emilia inspired child led environment.

Our infant/toddler age group is full. We do have space for two-year-olds.

I am offering a discount for a limited time for preschool, pre-k, age groups. 🥳 $1,250/monthly.

Erdc accepted, our hours are 830am-430pm. 🌞

Before/After.

I got this Community Playthings project table used and was hesitant at first due to the condition it was in. But these "outlast" tables clean up nicely! They really mean it when they say they will outlast the rest.

Ever tried reasoning with your child mid-meltdown—and got nowhere?

Here’s why:
When a child is dysregulated, it’s like there’s a traffic jam in their brain. Emotions have blocked the road, and nothing—not rewards, not consequences, not even your calmest logic—can get through.

What they need first isn’t correction.
It’s connection.

Help them clear the jam by offering co-regulation: a steady presence, deep breaths, or even just sitting quietly together. Once their “road” is clear again, then you can talk, teach, and guide.

Save this as a reminder: Calm first, teach later.

Sometimes the problem isn’t the behaviour. It’s what we’re expecting from the child in that moment.

We can find ourselves thinking, “They should be able to do this by now” or “Other kids their age can manage it.”

But age doesn’t tell us everything about capacity.
Before we focus on changing the behaviour, it can help to ask:

Is this expectation realistic for this child, in this moment?

Do they have the skills yet?
Are they tired, hungry, anxious or overwhelmed?
Does the environment make this harder?
Are we expecting independence before they’ve had enough support and practice?

Sometimes the child doesn’t need a bigger consequence or another reminder.

Sometimes we need to lower the step, add some support, and build the skill from there.

That isn’t lowering our hopes for our children. It’s giving them a realistic pathway towards them.
