We attended our daughters dance recital this past weekend and were delighted to see this informational sign regarding strobes! Obviously these types of situations can be extremely challenging for kids that have trouble coping with an overly stimulating environment.
While the most convenient choice to make would be to simply avoid the circumstance, but if possible, try to be strategic in how to make the situation less stressful instead without removing irksome stimuli completely from a child’s life. After all, the ultimate goal is to make our kids more independent in the long term!
Paint a clear picture of what to expect to help sooth any anxiety prior to the experience (if time allows). Calming tools often help aide tolerance, like a favorite stuffed animal, noise canceling headphones, listening to relaxing music, or fidget toys can assist in producing a more enjoyable memory while removing focus from stress-inducing stimuli💙💙💙.

There are countless strategies that should be incorporated into classroom instruction to help guide special needs students to achieve success. It’s important to realize that as with general ed students, each child achieves milestones at various stages in life, so we must highlight them when they occur in order to build upon each victory.
It is crucial to create an environment that will give them the best opportunity to succeed, setting up visual aids, sticking to routine and managing disruptions to acknowledge heightened sensitivities should all be recognized to creating a pathway for success our loved alternative learners🧩💙🙏🏼

A dads love for his daughter, what a beautiful thing!

There are so many positive attributions that kids with autism and other special needs possess that sometimes get overlooked. Every child is an individual and likely does not have every quality that is laid out here, but the unique characteristics are what symbolizes the true definition of neurodiversity, and we at applaud every child for being you👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼!!

Special Olympics NY provides inclusive opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities to compete in Olympic style coached sports. To help achieve goals at local and international contests, and to taste victory and overcome defeat!
We are super excited to be going and to help these athletes realize their dreams. It will be a magical day🌟🌟🌟.

The true power of having a pet, their sense of knowing when their love is needed, there are no other creatures on the planet that can provide this type of love, and for that we will be forever greatful💙🐶🐱💙

Hello everyone, thought this was spectacular and didn’t want anyone to miss out on it!

The pass can be used at over 2000 Federal recreation sites across the nation. Those include National Parks, National Wildlife Refuges, National Forests, and other federal recreation lands. It also extends that same privilege to everyone in the vehicle with the pass holder. So, if one person in your family qualifies, you can all visit a park for free with that person’s pass, how cool is that?!👏🏼👏🏼

All those with sensory, physical or mental impairments would qualify.

We hope everyone has a memorable weekend, just remember to try to hug someone, kiss someone, love someone and help someone if you can, but most importantly let’s just be kind to each other, there’s enough hate in the 🌏!
