SUNY Cortland Kinesiology Department

Kinesiology students in EXS 538 (Cardiorespiratory Fitness Assessment and Programing) tested fat as a fuel source during Zone 2 exercise intensity. Students were using a new portable metabolic analyzer🏃🏼‍♂️🫀

Sports Psychology/ Exercise Psychology is a requirement for Exercise Science, Coaching, and Sport Studies Majors.
Students in this Sport Psychology class were learning about mindfulness through an activity that used candy, and breathing techniques!

Senior Exercise Science students Mary Savi and Madison Heffern presented research posters this past weekend at the Mid-Atlantic Regional American College of Sports Medicine Conference (MARC ACSM). Over 100 posters were presented and over 500 participants attended the two-day conference in Lancaster, PA.

Mary’s work investigated the fat oxidation rates on an Alter G treadmill, and Madison researched the perceptual responses to exercise at a maximal fat oxidation exercise intensity. Mary and Madison were mentored by Dr. Hokanson and Dr. Lind from the Kinesiology Department.

Our department is designed to prepare you for a wide variety of professions related to physical activity and sport. Our curriculum also serves as a stepping stone to professional training in an allied health profession (i.e., medicine, physical therapy, occupational therapy, chiropractic, etc.) or graduate work in exercise physiology, biomechanics, motor behavior, and sport and exercise psychology. 🏋🏼📝🩺
