Parents/Guardians
After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this Saturday’s football game against the Wellington Eagles.
Over the past four weeks, our team has sustained a significant number of injuries that have continued to reduce the number of players we have healthy and available to compete. Our program has always embraced a “next man up” mentality. We expect our players to prepare, step into whatever role is asked of them, and compete for the teammates beside them.
While our players’ desire to play has never been in question, player safety must come first. Given the number of injuries we are currently dealing with and the limited number of healthy players available, we do not believe we can safely field a varsity level football team this Saturday.
This is not an easy decision, our coaching staff by no means want to do this. We understand the disappointment that comes with canceling a game, for our players, families, supporters, and for the Wellington Eagles and their community. We have an extreme amount of respect for Wellington and are saddened by the circumstances have brought us to this decision.
Our responsibility as coaches goes beyond wins, losses, and playing on Friday nights or Saturdays. We are trusted with the well-being of the young men in our program. When circumstances reach a point where we believe putting them on the field creates an unnecessary risk to their safety, we have an obligation to make the difficult decision despite our personal feelings
We appreciate the understanding of our players, families, community, and the Wellington football program as we put the health and safety of our student-athletes first.
