Children's Kiva Montessori School Mission: Kiva Montessori builds a strong foundation for students. We challenge students through in

Our founding committee applied for charter authorization from the Montezuma-Cortez Re-1 School District in August of 2013. We opened our doors as a publicly funded Kindergarten through 8th grade program starting in the fall of 2014. Vision
Children’s Kiva Montessori School is a place of vibrant and joyful learning where students are immersed in academic, emotional, and social growth on their way t

o becoming kind, confident, and engaged members of their communities. Mission
Children’s Kiva Montessori School builds a strong foundation for children. We challenge students through integrated curriculum; we work in supportive and engaging environments;
we collaborate with one another; we embrace diversity; and, we explore our passions. Guiding Principles:

The Children’s Kiva Montessori Charter School mentors, encourages, and guides children to become responsible, thoughtful, caring citizens through curriculum and practices that emphasize:

· Authentic Montessori methods

· Rigorous, integrated academics - project-based and Colorado Standards-based curriculum that integrates Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and the Arts (STEAM).

· Community-based approaches including field experiences in our rich local and global environments and close partnerships with families, community organizations, institutions, businesses, and higher education

· A whole child, whole school, whole community approach that embraces and enriches the talents and resources of our students, families, faculty, and community.

· A strong commitment to the remarkable cultural and ecological diversity of the Four Corners through inclusive practices in teaching, learning, hiring, and enrollment. Students will achieve success, responsibility, self-reliance and empowerment in the following key areas:

· Language Arts and Mathematics

· Science, Technology, and Engineering

· Cultural Studies, Humanities and Spanish

· The Arts and Movement

· Character Development including personal, social, emotional skills

WHY MONTESSORI? Longitudinal studies of Montessori education have found that Montessori students...
-have better academic and social skills than peers in non-Montessori classrooms
-are life-long learners -are self-disciplined and self-controlled
-have a greater understanding of truth and fairness
-are creative, especially in writing
-are more independent
-have stronger conceptual understandings in mathematics, grammar, and the sciences
-have deeper understanding of the interdisciplinary nature of humanities and the sciences (Lillard; Science, 2006)

We are excited to announce that we may have a few openings for students in some grade levels during the 2023-2024 school year!

If you are NEW to Kiva and intend to apply or know someone that intends to apply, and have not already done so, please email us your name and phone number, the student's name, and their expected 2023-24 grade level to [email protected]. That is all we need to let Ms. Patty know that you "intend" to apply.

We will email an application* to everyone who has contacted us on March 13th at noon.

If you prefer to pick up a paper application in person, please stop by our office Monday through Thursday between March 13th and May 4th, 2023, between 8 AM and 4 PM. We are truly honored by your interest in having your children attend our school!

*Please be advised that just requesting an application or letting us know you "intend" to apply does not put you on our waitlist. We hope you'll help us express our gratitude and thank the Montezuma Cortez RE-1 school district for sharing school supplies, furniture, and resources with us from the closed Manaugh Elementary building.

Also thanks to our amazing team who made acquiring those resources happen by putting in a tremendous amount of hard labor to sort, pack, move, and unload supplies into our building!

The love in this school is truly inspiring, and I hope you and your family feel it everyday!

Ms. Lurleen
