How Do We Recognize Alignment So We Know When Trust Is Appropriate?
We’ve all heard Maya Angelou’s beautiful reminder:
When people show you who they are, believe them.
I’ve reflected on those words many times throughout my life.
Especially during seasons when trust was being tested.
Today, during my morning meditation, Source expanded that inquiry in a way I hadn’t considered before.
The question wasn’t simply whether someone could be trusted.
The question became:
How do we recognize alignment so we know when trust is appropriate?
That subtle shift changes everything.
Most conversations about trust happen after it has already been broken.
We talk about betrayal.
Broken promises.
Disappointment.
Repair.
Forgiveness.
Moving on.
Those conversations matter.
But they all happen after the fact.
This meditation invited me to look somewhere entirely different.
Not at trust itself.
At alignment.
Because trust is not something we manufacture.
Trust is a natural byproduct of aligned intention, aligned values, and aligned action
When those are present, trust has fertile ground to grow.
When they begin to separate, something within us often recognizes the shift long before our mind catches up.
Looking back over my own life, I can see moments when I sensed that something was no longer aligned.
Sometimes it was a subtle feeling.
Sometimes it was a conversation that didn’t quite match the energy behind it.
Sometimes words and actions quietly drifted apart.
Sometimes agreements were no longer being honored.
The information was there.
The question was whether I was aligned enough within myself to recognize it.
That realization feels incredibly important.
Because I don’t believe we are here to cultivate blind trust.
Blind trust asks us to ignore what we know.
Aligned trust asks us to become quiet enough to hear it.
Our intuition is constantly communicating.
Our body is constantly communicating.
Life is constantly communicating.
Energy is constantly communicating.
The question becomes…
Are we listening?
During the meditation, another realization emerged.
People show us who they are.
Energy shows us what is aligned.
Neither needs to be judged.
Both can simply be observed.
Awareness allows us to notice.
Alignment allows us to understand what we’re noticing.
From that place, trust becomes much less confusing.
It is no longer about deciding whether someone deserves it.
It becomes an ongoing relationship with discernment.
Can I trust my intuition?
Can I trust my awareness?
Can I trust my ability to navigate whatever unfolds?
Can I trust myself to honor my values, even when it is uncomfortable?
Those were the questions that continued arising throughout the meditation.
Then another layer appeared.
When trust has been broken, our first instinct is often to focus on the other person.
Why did they do that?
How could they?
Can I ever trust again?
The meditation invited a different question.
Where did the alignment change?
When did words and actions stop matching?
When did integrity begin to drift?
When did the agreement change?
When did I feel it in my body?
When did I override what I already knew?
Those questions don’t lead toward blame.
They lead toward awareness.
And awareness is where freedom begins.
As I continued listening, another insight quietly emerged.
Every time we focus exclusively on the hurt or the harm, we gradually move further away from our own harmonic balance.
Not because the hurt isn’t real.
Not because the experience should be minimized.
But because our attention begins organizing itself around the wound instead of around what restores us.
The invitation isn’t to deny what happened.
The invitation is to return to harmony.
To return to alignment.
From there, the practice naturally becomes one of care.
Care for ourselves.
Care for others.
Care for our communication.
Care for our agreements.
Care for our integrity.
Care for our energy.
Care becomes the way we restore our own harmonic balance.
Not because someone else has changed.
Because we have consciously returned to alignment.
Perhaps this is what trust has been teaching me all along.
Not to trust everyone.
Not to trust no one.
But to trust alignment.
To trust my yes.
To trust my no.
To trust the quiet wisdom that arises when my heart, my values, my intuition, and my actions are living in harmony with one another.
Because from that place, trust is no longer a guess.
It becomes a natural response to what is genuinely aligned.
That’s why every morning, I return to Self/Source… not to learn who to trust.
I return to become more deeply aligned.
Because coming into aligned action before I do anything else is the most important reason I practice these principles.
It’s also the foundation of the work I share with others.
Whether through a Soul Session, Source Reconnection, or one of my immersive experiences, my intention is never to become someone else’s source of answers. It is to help people reconnect with their own inner well of infinite intelligence, and strengthen the relationship that has been within them all along.
Because the more deeply we learn to trust that connection within ourselves, the more clearly we recognize alignment in every area of our lives.
