The TWDB is now accepting public comments on the Draft 2027 State Water Plan through 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 29. The draft was developed using a two-phase approach to meet the 2026 State Water Implementation Fund for Texas (SWIFT) commitment deadline while allowing additional time to deliver a more comprehensive final plan by the statutory deadline of January 5, 2027.

This initial draft includes the core elements required by statute and administrative rule. An enhanced version of the 2027 State Water Plan, anticipated as the first amendment in fall 2026, will provide more detailed and informative content and will include a separate public comment period.

Individuals wishing to provide comments during the hearing must submit a visitor registration card by emailing [email protected] by 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27, or register in person at the hearing.

Community Resilience – Diana Del Angel at the National Forum on Nature-Based Solutions.

Diana Del Angel attended the third annual National Forum on Nature-Based Solutions (NbS), hosted by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, in Mobile, AL, from March 10–12, 2026. This three-day event brought together experts from various sectors to discuss innovative, sustainable strategies for addressing environmental risks like flooding and coastal erosion, while promoting ecosystem and community well-being. The forum focused on sharing best practices, tackling implementation challenges, and exploring scalable, collaborative solutions. Diana contributed by presenting a poster on her recent publication about NbS planning in Refugio County.

Through the Regional Resiliency Partnership, HRI in collaboration with the Coastal Bend Council of Governments, is offering an internship opportunity for graduate students during the spring and summer of 2026 through the National Working Waterfront Network.

The internship program, made possible through the NWWN’s Coastal States Stewardship Foundation, will be focused on applied research related to working waterfronts, and offers students an opportunity to address real-world needs in a specific region.
