The moon is moving toward the New Moon on August 12, which generally means stronger tidal influence as we get closer to that lunar phase. More water movement can help push bait through guts, cuts, channels, passes, and around the jetties. When the bait starts moving, the dinner bell gets rung.

A few reasons I like Monday:

🌙 Approaching New Moon:
Fish often become more active around these stronger lunar periods, especially Redfish, Speckled Trout and larger predators.

🌊 Increasing tidal movement:
Stronger currents can concentrate shrimp, mullet and other bait around cuts, washouts, blocked guts and structure.

🌅 Early morning advantage:
The first couple hours after sunrise remain the money window before that August heat turns the beach into an air fryer.

🎣 Good lure conditions:
Start with 1-ounce silver spoons, paddletails, topwaters and freelined live shrimp or mullet. Around the surf, fresh shrimp and FishBites should keep Whiting, Pompano and Drum interested.

🦈 Predator opportunity:
Jack Crevalle, Spanish Mackerel, sharks and possibly Tarpon can take advantage of concentrated bait around passes, jetties and deeper guts.

BEST TARGETS:
🐟 Speckled Trout
🔴 Redfish
🐟 Spanish Mackerel
💪 Jack Crevalle
🐟 Whiting
🦈 Sharks
🐟 Pompano

🏖️ BEACH BUM TIP

Don't just pull onto the beach and throw a line straight out because the Gulf happens to be sitting there. Look for cuts, washouts, blocked guts, nervous bait and birds working the water. Finding the right piece of beach can matter more than having $500 worth of tackle rattling around in vehicle.

🌊 THE SOUNDS OF THE SEA

For those of you who may not be able to make it down to the coast right now, here’s a little taste of what makes Padre Island and Port Aransas so special.

Sometimes the best part of visiting the beach isn’t fishing, swimming, or looking for shells.

It’s simply sitting there.

Feeling that breeze rolling in off the Gulf, listening to the waves break along the shoreline, and breathing in that salty coastal air. There’s something about it that makes the rest of the world seem a whole lot farther away.

Then you look up and see a line of Brown Pelicans cruising down the beach in perfect formation, barely skimming above the water.

Meanwhile, the seagulls are standing nearby watching you like tiny feathered security guards, waiting for you to drop one single chip.

No traffic. No deadlines. No rushing around.

Just waves, wind, birds, salt air, and a little sand between your toes.

That’s what Padre Island and Port Aransas are really all about.

Sometimes you don’t need to do anything at the beach.

You just need to be there.

🟤 THE BROWN PELICAN — A TRUE TEXAS COAST LEGEND !

Ever seen a line of Brown Pelicans cruising down the beach in perfect formation? They look like they’ve got somewhere VERY important to be.

Probably breakfast. 😂

These big ol’ beach dinosaurs will glide just a few feet above the waves, spot one unlucky mullet, fold themselves up like a lawn chair, and BODY-SLAM the Gulf for a free seafood buffet.

And fishermen better pay attention.

When pelicans start circling, diving, and acting like somebody just yelled FREE SHRIMP, there’s usually bait getting pushed around underneath them.

🎣 What pelicans can tell fishermen:
• Diving birds usually mean bait is nearby
• Bait getting pushed can mean predators are feeding underneath
• Trout, redfish, Spanish mackerel and jacks may be close
• A bunch of pelicans working one area is definitely worth watching

Basically, Brown Pelicans are unpaid fishing guides.

• No boat
• No electronics
• No fancy fish finder
• No subscription fee
• Just wings, eyeballs and a serious appetite

They fly over, point at the fish with their entire body, grab a few snacks, and head on down the beach.

And somehow they still manage to look majestic while carrying around a bill that looks like it could hold a six-pack.

Without the Brown Pelican, the Texas coast just wouldn’t be the same.

They entertain millions of visitors, help fishermen locate activity, patrol the shoreline every day, and usually mind their own business while giving everybody plenty of room.

So next time you see that pelican squadron coming down the shoreline...

🫡 Give ’em a nod.

LONG LIVE THE BROWN PELICAN ! 🤙

🔥 COASTAL BEND FISHING REPORT UPDATED THIS MORNING !

If you’re in Port Aransas and want to get on the fish early this morning, but you’re not fishing the South Jetty, load up the beach wagon and start heading south down the beach.

Keep rolling until you run smack into those jetties that, well... resemble a giant p***s from the air. 😂 You’ll know exactly when you’ve arrived.

Once you get there, grab that shiny 1-ounce silver spoon, launch it toward the GODS, and hang on tight !

When one of those fish crushes that spoon, watch that reel start screaming like a Karen who just found out you’re KEEPING THE FISH ! 🤣

Get there early before the heat kicks in and keep that spoon moving.
