With COVID (hopefully!) winding down, it's time to get Coastal Bend chess players back to the boards. Towards this purpose, the annual membership meeting will be held Friday, August 20, 2021, at 6:30 pm at Fuddrucker's.
Because there was no season last year, the board has voted to waive both the nominating committee and the 2-event volunteer requirements for candidates and voters. Nominations are now being accepted from the general membership. You may nominate yourself or any person who has given you permission to nominate them--no unwilling participants, please.
Email your nominations to include name, phone and/or email, and position for which you are nominating to ocbchess@gmailcom no later than August 13, 2021. Floor nominations will also be accepted at the meeting.
Positions are as follows:
PRESIDENT The president shall serve as Executive Officer of the OCBCF, preside at all meetings of the Board, be a member of all committees, exercise general supervision over affairs of the OCBCF, have primary responsibility for the operation and successful completion of all tournaments and fundraising events, and perform such other duties as are ordinarily incumbent upon a President.Further, the President will have the authority to appoint when as needed subordinate officers (ex. Assistant Secretary or Assistant Treasurer); subject to the approval of the Board. As officers of the OCBCF, they will have the authority to act on behalf of their supervising officer and will have a vote at OCBCF meetings.
FIRST VICE-PRESIDENT The First Vice-President shall perform the duties and exercise the powers of the President whenever the President is unable to so serve. Acting under the guidance and direction of the President and/or the Board the First Vice-President's primary role will be to coordinate all of the activities of the OCBCF. These activities include media relations including, but not limited to, social media and local news stations, in addition, finding facilities, vendors, concessions, fundraising, etc.
SECOND VICE-PRESIDENT The Second Vice-President shall perform the duties and exercise the duties of the President whenever the President and the First Vice-President are unable to do so. Acting under guidance and direction of the President and/or the Board the Second Vice-President's primary role is to coordinate all of the internal activities of the OCBCF. These activities could include the conduct of all tournaments, mailings, mass emails, newsletters, etc. In addition, Second Vice-President is responsible for holding and inventorying all materials related to chess tournaments.
SECRETARY The secretary shall keep and maintain an accurate record of all proceedings of the OCBCF including meetings of the Board and shall have custody of all official papers and records pertaining to actions of the OCBCF. The Secretary shall prepare such correspondence as may be required by the President and the Board, assisting in mass emails and newsletters, including preparation of notices of meetings where required, and shall make the file all reports required by the OCBCF.
TREASURER The Treasurer shall keep and maintain all books and records of fees, dues and monies collected and disbursed in the form and manner prescribed by the Board. The Treasurer shall also submit regular financial statements n the form, manner, and frequency prescribed by the Board, prepare an annual statement for the annual meeting of the OCBCF, maintain an inventory of all physical assets owned by the OCBCF, monitor warranties on those assets, and generally perform such duties as are ordinarily incumbent upon a Treasurer.
PUBLIC RELATION OFFICER The Public Relation Officer is a support position for the First Vice-President to assist in timely communications with the Public. Acting under the guidance and direction of the President/ First Vice-President and/or the Board the Public Relation Officer’s primary role will be to support First Vice-President in all of the activities of the OCBCF. These activities include media relations including, but not limited to, social media and local news stations, in addition, finding facilities, vendors, concessions, fundraising, etc.
HISTORIAN The Historian shall keep significance historical data and information organized and easily accessible. Gather significance historical data from sources such as archives, contact information, news files, and photographs to share with the members of the OCBCF. This position should be filled with a long term or lifetime member of the OCBCF.
