The value of convergence research for developing trustworthy AI for weather, climate, and ocean hazards - npj Natural Hazards Artificial Intelligence applications are rapidly expanding across weather, climate, and natural hazards. AI can be used to assist with forecasting weather and climate risks, including forecasting both the chance that a hazard will occur and the negative impacts from it, which means AI can help prote...

This weekend three of our CBI AI2ES student researchers are graduating. Congratulations and thank you for your big contributions to AI2ES helping push the science of machine learning and the prediction of coastal inundation. Marina will officially become Dr. Vicens-Miquel after a fantastic PhD career. In the not too distant future you will hear more from Marina. And as "planned", Katie Colburn is graduating at the same time as Marina with her BS in Kinesiology. And congrats to Katie for a big recogntion from her college (below). Finally, multi talented Jason Palmore is graduating with his BS in Music after contributing to our AI2ES websites, and our computer infrastructure. We are wishing you all three wonderfull next steps in your careers in Norman, Lubbock and at least one of you is likely staying in the Coastal Bend!

Congratulations to student Savannah Stephenson for being awarded 2nd place in AMS Coastal Symposium Student Poster Competition! Savannah is an Undergraduate Research Assistant with CBI AI2ES. Her poster presentation highlighted research she performed last summer with Audra lusher and her team at NOAA CO-OPS to establish the viability of integrating web cameras into NOAA’s Coastal Inundation Dashboard to increase stakeholder capability to plan for inundation events. Savannah is the first student from CBI to win an award in this competition--way to go, Savannah!

Hi to all following CBI AI2ES: very cool to see this morning our PhD student Miranda White featured in our university newsletter, Coastlines. Great story on Miranda and the impact of her convergent research at the intersection of AI, risk communication, and coastal sciences. Thank you to Brenda and all who have helped with the story. And thank you all at CBI, AI2ES, NRT, and CCME, for your support, it takes a bigger village for convergent science. And above all, well done Miranda!

Huge congratulations to CBI AI2ES PhD student Miranda White on an outstanding achievement! Miranda has received FIRST PLACE in the AMS AI Conference Oral Presentations contest! Her presentation titled "Uncertainty Quantifications of the Onset and Offset of Cold-Stunning Events Using AI Ensemble Methods" stood out for its excellence (https://buff.ly/49kFFgk).
This victory is particularly significant as it marks the first time a CBI student has claimed the top spot in the oral competition. Miranda also previously secured FIRST PLACE in the 2023 poster competition, showcasing her consistent dedication to excellence in research. Miranda's contributions to the Cold-Stunning research project continue to make us proud. She was also previously an NSF NRT-STAGES scholar and is currently a NOAA CCME scholar. Congratulations Miranda on this well-deserved accomplishment!
