✨Barber BHM✨
Barbering has long been a powerful part of Black history—blending skill, entrepreneurship, and community leadership. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, many Black barbers built successful businesses that became respected gathering places and economic hubs. One notable pioneer was Alonzo Herndon, who started as a barber and used his earnings to found what became one of the most successful Black-owned insurance companies in America.
Another influential figure, A. B. Moler, helped formalize barber education, while trailblazers like Willie Lee Morrow later revolutionized the industry with inventions such as textured-hair tools and styling techniques that shaped modern grooming. Historically, Black barbershops have also served as safe community spaces—places for mentorship, conversation, activism, and cultural expression.
From historic pioneers to today’s barbers perfecting fades and designs, Black barbering isn’t just a profession—it’s a legacy of craftsmanship, leadership, and cultural influence that continues to shape style and community worldwide. ✊🏾💈

✨Cosmetology BHM ✨
Black excellence has shaped the beauty industry for generations. Trailblazers like Madam C.J. Walker, one of the first self-made female millionaires in the U.S., built a haircare empire that empowered Black women with economic opportunity. Innovator Annie Turnbo Malone developed successful hair products and founded a beauty college to train future professionals. Inventor Marjorie Stewart Joyner revolutionized styling with her permanent wave machine and helped standardize cosmetology education. Salon owner and activist Rose Meta Morgan used her beauty business to create jobs and support civil rights causes.
From pioneers to present-day artists, Black cosmetologists continue to set trends, build businesses, and inspire the industry—proving beauty is not just style, its legacy, culture, and power. ✊🏾💇🏾♀️
