For 42 years, one iconic partner has stood beside Coronado’s students, schools, and community: Hotel del Coronado.

As the Coronado Schools Foundation’s longest-standing partner, Hotel del Coronado has been there year after year, helping make so many of the events, experiences, and fundraising efforts that support our students possible.

Their generosity goes far beyond a partnership. It is an investment in our schools, our community, and the opportunities available to every student in the Coronado Unified School District.

For 42 years, Hotel del has continued to show what it means to be a true community partner and its impact can be felt in classrooms, on campuses, at events, and throughout the lives of our students.

From every student who has walked through the doors of CUSD over the past 42 years, thank you, Hotel del Coronado. We cannot express our gratitude for your unwavering commitment to making a difference in our community.

Full Circle Moment: A piece of CUSD history has officially found its way home! Today we celebrated the new home of the Boat House mosaic mural, originally crafted out of Venetian glass tiles by the 1962–64 CHS Art Club.

The beautiful piece has had quite an extraordinary life! The original project was led by artists Sue Sanderman Savage along with Sandy Barkhurst and other art club members, the ambitious project cost nearly $100 at the time and was originally dedicated in 1964.

After hanging outside the CHS administration building, it was saved from a construction landfill by Elizabeth Parker Chaffee when the old high school was demolished. Decades later, CHS Class of 1988 alum Brad Gerbel spotted the artwork on social media and teamed up with then-Arts Administrator Kelly Purvis to bring it back to the community.

Thanks to the Coronado Schools Foundation for accepting it as a donation, and then fundraising for its restoration, it is now back home in a new protected and prominent location in the lobby of Coronado Middle School.

Thank you to everyone who helped preserve, rediscover, and restore this piece of CUSD history for future generations to enjoy!
