Check out the mesmerizing fall musical from CoSA!

The Coronado School of the Arts (CoSA) Musical Theatre and Drama Conservatory brings Alice by Heart to the stage! Alice by Heart is a touching musical which explores themes of grief, loss, and first love against the backdrop of World War II's London Blitz. The story follows Alice Spencer and her dying friend, Alfred, as they seek refuge in an underground tube station and use their love for Alice's Adventures in Wonderland to escape the harsh realities of war. The musical celebrates the power of imagination and friendship to help people find the courage to move forward. While the original Alice in Wonderland is a fantasy, Alice by Heart uses the story as a metaphor for growing up, coping with death, and navigating first love in a time of crisis.

Director, Barbar Wolf shares, “Alice By Heart one of my new favorite musicals! My students introduced it to me two years ago, and I fell in love with it immediately! It is written by Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater who wrote the musical 'Spring Awakening' which is profound in its meaning and beautiful in its story and music. We are all very excited to be rehearsing this wonderful musical and then to share it. "

Alice By Heart is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI. www.mtishows.com

The performance opens in the Coronado Performing Arts Center, 650 D Avenue, Coronado, on Friday October 17th at 7pm, with additional showtimes on Saturday October 18th at 7pm, Sunday October 19th at 2pm, Friday October 24th at 7pm and Saturday October 25th at 7pm.

Roll out the red carpet! The Coronado School of the Arts (CoSA) Digital Arts Conservatory will host this year’s awards show, the Digital Arts Extravaganza, on Thursday, May 22 from 5 to 7:30 pm at the Coronado Performing Arts Center at 650 D Avenue. This exciting and interactive show features student work in photography, graphic design, film and animation. Not only are guests treated to amazing works of digital art, but they get to vote for “Viewer’s Choice” in several categories.

This year’s red carpet event features an artists’ reception, galleries for still artwork and film festivals from animators and filmmakers. There will be live voting for best of show as well as an awards presentation.

“This is our end-of-the-year celebration, and it’s a culminating event where our level four students share their final capstone projects,” said Michelle Evenson, film and design teacher. “Students work for several weeks to create personal legacy projects to showcase at the Extravaganza.”

The event is almost entirely student-produced. The students created all the live voting forms, the gallery cards, and they also emcee the event.

The artists’ reception will open at 5 pm in the theatre lobby and will feature the works of photography, graphic design, and game design students. The film and animation screenings will begin promptly at 5:30 pm in the main theatre and conclude at 7:30 pm.

The CoSA Musical Theatre and Drama Conservatory is proud to announce that its production of Cabaret has been selected by Broadway San Diego as one of the top five musicals of the season! In addition, Bruno Dominguez, who played the emcee, and Katie Moreno, who stared as Sally Bowles, were named Top 10 Best Actor and Top 10 Best Actress, respectfully.

The full cast of Cabaret will perform at the Balboa Theatre on Sunday, May 25th to compete for top honors. The winners of Best Actor and Best Actress will go on to the “Jimmy” awards in New York City on June 23 at the Minskoff Theatre on Broadway.

This is CoSA’s third nomination for Best Musical, according to Barbara Wolf, CoSA Musical Theatre and Drama Conservatory Director. In 2014, CoSA won for its production of Legally Blonde.

“We had an amazing team with this show,” said Wolf. “Our choreographers--Gina Sorensen and Lauren Pym--did amazing work on the dances and our designers and musical director made this a remarkable show.”

For Katie Moreno, the chance to play Sally Bowles in Cabaret was a dream come true. She says she’s grateful for opportunity to take on the challenging role before leaving CoSA.

“I am beyond excited that the Broadway San Diego Awards team is giving me the opportunity to represent our school as one of their Top 20 finalists,” said Moreno. “I am also so happy that our entire cast and crew were recognized for their hard work and passion to make this show a success.”

Dominguez, who played the emcee, is excited to perform at Balboa Theatre.
“I am incredibly thankful and ecstatic to have the opportunity to attend and perform at the Broadway San Diego Awards,” said Dominguez. “I look forward to giving my all at the show!”
