🧵 Did you know that one of the ideas behind the Toyota Production System started with a textile loom?

Back in 1896, Japanese inventor Sakichi Toyoda developed a power loom with a mechanism that automatically stopped when a thread broke.

Why was this such a big deal? Instead of continuing to produce defective fabric, the machine stopped and prevented waste before it multiplied.

💡 This innovation helped lay the groundwork for Jidoka — building quality into the process by detecting problems and stopping when something goes wrong.

The lesson? Don't just fix defects. Design processes to prevent them.

🚀 That's the kind of thinking that makes continuous improvement so powerful!

💬 If you could design your process to automatically detect one problem before it grows, what would it be?

🌱 Small Improvements, Big Changes: The 1% Better Habit

You don’t need to change your entire life overnight to make progress. Sometimes, the biggest transformations start with the smallest daily habits.

💡 Try this Lean Six Sigma tip: At the end of each day, ask yourself three simple questions:

✅ What went well today?
🔍 What could I have done better?
🚀 What’s one small thing I can improve tomorrow?

Whether it’s organizing your workspace, managing your time, or building healthier routines, small, consistent improvements can make a big difference over time.

Remember: Continuous improvement isn’t about being perfect. It’s about getting a little better every day.

💬 Your turn! What’s one small habit that has made your life easier or more productive? Share it in the comments and inspire someone else!

📊 THE HIDDEN COST OF VARIATION

A process can have a good average and still deliver unpredictable results. When variation goes unnoticed, it can lead to delays, rework, excess inventory, and inconsistent customer experiences.

With Lean Six Sigma, you can go beyond the average: measure variation, identify its root causes, and use data to make processes more predictable and reliable.

💬 What creates the most variation in your processes?

⏰ Busy doesn’t always mean productive.
Try the Eisenhower Matrix:

🔴 Urgent + Important
→ Do it now.
🟡 Important + Not Urgent
→ Schedule it.
⚪ Urgent + Not Important
→ Delegate it.
⚫ Not Urgent + Not Important
→ Eliminate it.

💡 The goal isn’t to do more.
It’s to spend your time on what matters.
Try it tomorrow and see what changes.

💬 Which quadrant takes up most of your day?

🔎 SIPOC: A Foundation for Process Analysis

SIPOC is a high-level tool used in Lean Six Sigma to define a process before detailed analysis begins.

It establishes process boundaries, key inputs, major activities, outputs, and customer relationships without documenting every individual task.

A well-defined SIPOC helps teams:

✅ Establish process scope
🎯 Identify critical inputs and outputs
🤝 Clarify customer and supplier relationships
🧩 Create a common framework for further analysis

SIPOC does not identify root causes or solve problems. It provides the structure needed to analyze the process effectively.

💬 What’s the biggest challenge your team faces when defining a process?

⏱️ What wastes the most time in your workday?

Meetings that could have been emails?
Waiting for approvals?
Rework?
Searching for information?
Unclear priorities?
Too many handoffs?

Lean Six Sigma teaches us that waste isn't always found on the production floor.

Sometimes, it's hiding in our calendars.

💬 What is the #1 source of wasted time in your organization?

Tell us in the comments — and let's see which type of waste shows up most often.

Change is inevitable. Fear is optional. 🚀

At the Lean Six Sigma Institute, we don’t run from change. We DMAIC it. (See what we did there? 😉)

And right now, the biggest change on the table is AI.

But here’s what we know: AI isn’t here to replace Lean Six Sigma. It’s here to amplify it.

5 reasons why AI + LSS is a match made in process heaven:

1️⃣ Data overload? AI cleans it up.
2️⃣ Root cause analysis? AI speeds it up.
3️⃣ Waste identification? AI spots what humans miss.
4️⃣ Process optimization? AI simulates scenarios in seconds.
5️⃣ Change management? AI helps you predict resistance before it happens.
Lean Six Sigma Institute says: Don’t fear the algorithm. Lead it.

Ready to future-proof your skills? Drop a 💡 if you’re integrating AI into your LSS toolkit!
