Just wanted to share...

Because of the core phonological deficit in the dyslexic profile, another neurobiological difference observed in brain scans of dyslexics is in the frontal lobe in an area known as Broca’s Area. This area is responsible for planning the movement of the tongue, mouth, and lips necessary for speech production. It’s also believed to play a component in language comprehension.

In a dyslexic brain, Broca’s Area is overactivated to compensate for the underactivation in areas connected to phonology. Because there is static in the phonological transmission and because they’re missing the road map that automatizes the sound-letter connection, dyslexics are forced to find an alternate pathway, which is less accurate and less efficient. Contrary to the stigma of being “lazy,” dyslexics are actually working harder in order to accomplish the task of deciphering the words on the page. This is why our dyslexic children can experience meltdowns, exhaustion, and burnout at school—they are literally putting more intentional brain effort into completing tasks that come more automatically to their neurotypical classmates.
