Children come into the foster system through no fault of their own. They’ve often suffered abuse, neglect, and trauma. As a Resource Parent you have the opportunity to make a tremendous impact on the life of these youth — an impact that will last a lifetime and disrupt the ripple effect that could effect following generations.

It all begins when you open your heart to the idea of opening your home. Despite many myths, these are the qualifications to become a resource parent.

To be a resource parent, you must:

be 25 years of age
own or rent a home
have adequate income to support your own financial needs
pass a background check and have a drivers license and social security card
Steps to Becoming a Resource Parent
Step one: Schedule an orientation meeting to get all your questions answered and to determine if becoming a resource parent is right for you.

Step two: Print and complete required forms and get your fingerprinting done. All adults in the home must pass background checks and submit required documentation.

Step three: Complete all required training. Parenting experience and prior training may count to reduce the required training hours. You will be guided through this process.

Step four: Begin Home Study and insure your home meets all required standards spelled out in the Home Inspection Sheet.

Step five: Wait for county approval. This step is out of our hands and may require patience.

Step six: Once you have completed the certification process and the county has approved you, you will be prepared to welcome foster youth into your home with love, patience, and flexibility.

We serve youth from 0 – 20 years of age.
