There was a lot of downtime, resting, and all around relaxing at our family reunion on Day 2. I had some time to start mattress stitching column 1 to column 2. Once I started working on it, I realized I had underestimated how much work just this part would be. I did get those squares stitched together but the other ones will have to wait a bit before I have time to work on them again.

Mattress stitch - put your binding yarn in your tapestry needle, lay your two squares flat together with the side you want to stitch facing up. Take your needle and enter through the back of the back loops only on the left square, pull your yarn through, then enter your needle through on the back of back loops of the right square directly across from the last stitch. Continue across until you’ve completed the mattress stitching to end of that side of both squares.
