A generation of readers have home libraries because of a women with a dream from small town TN. Thank you, Dolly for you generosity and vision!!

A legacy of music and literacy!

In 1995 Dolly Parton began mailing books to children in her home county to honor her father, who couldn’t read or write — and to spark a love of reading. That idea lives here too.

In 2024 Tehama County joined Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, and now every month children in our county, ages birth to 5. receive a book in the mail. We currently have 1,435 children actively enrolled and 430 graduates. By building home libraries, encouraging daily reading routines, and supporting school readiness, the program helps give our youngest children the best start in life and fosters long‑term literacy development.

This works because neighbors fund it, volunteers run it, and one generous woman from Sevier County, TN started it all.

Thank you, Dolly, for your generosity and vision.

Last week the teachers and staff at Woodson Elementary School surprised students with “Pops and Chalks” on their first day of school — handwritten welcome-back messages and a cool treat to celebrate the students return to campus! What a wonderful start to the 2026-2027 school year!
