School starts tomorrow at Swallowtail! 🦋 We’re looking forward to another year filled with wonder, imagination, meaningful connections, joyful learning, and the beauty of childhood.

September and the start of our school year is just a few days away! 🍎 Our teachers have been busy prepping for all our wonderful students, and some of that prep is beautifying our spaces. Waldorf classrooms come alive with vibrant seasonal art and it's a treasure to be able to share some of that art with you all.

See you soon, dear families!

A peek into some of our 4th graders’ finished main lesson books 📚

Instead of using traditional text books, our students create their own main lesson books, chronicling their learning journey throughout the year. Across these pages, you’ll find careful observations, vibrant illustrations, thoughtful writing, and meaningful work that reflects what they have learned.

Each book is as unique as the child who created it—a lasting record of a year filled with curiosity, creativity, and discovery. ✨

Math is everywhere! At Swallowtail, math is brought through movement, creativity, and purposeful work.

It might look like measuring ingredients for bread dough, counting jump rope turns with friends, learning about measurement through verse, creating a sundial to trace the passage of the day, discovering fractions by slicing apples, counting stitches while knitting socks, practicing times tables with multiplication flowers, designing geometric art installations, or measuring fabric to sew a log cabin pillow cover.

These meaningful, hands-on experiences nurture curiosity, confidence, and a deep understanding of mathematical relationships.

In Waldorf education formal academics begin in first grade. We introduce reading, writing, and math through storytelling, art, movement, and hands-on experiences. Fairy tales and nature stories form the foundation for learning letters, reading through writing, and developing language skills. Math concepts are taught through imaginative stories, rhythm, and practical activities. Our first grade students also begin to engage in specialty subjects like Spanish, handwork, and music. And of course, they spend ample time outdoors— especially at our farm campus.

If you are looking for a joyful, holistic start to your child’s educational journey, we would love to meet you! Follow the link in our bio to schedule a tour.

Last Friday, we held our annual rising up ceremony to honor our students who will be leaving early childhood and entering into grade one this fall. 🦋

After donning their special butterfly wings in the Kindergarten classroom, the children came outside to find all of our grades students and teachers forming a tunnel of flowering branches. One by one, they ran through the tunnel and were met at the end by their new first grade class teacher, Ms. Hila. The children ended the day by visiting the first grade classroom and enjoying a story shared by Ms. Hila.

This beautiful tradition marks an important transition for these children and their families. We are so excited for all of the meaningful experiences, deep learning, and lifelong friendships that this group of students will share in the years to come. 💛

Looking forward to seeing Swallowtail families past and present at the farm tomorrow for our anniversary celebration! It will be a fun-filled afternoon with field games, a cookout lunch, live music, and folk dancing. We’ll also be planting 30 apple trees to honor our school’s 30 year history. 🍎 Hope to see you there!
