Hello! I am a North Carolina native, born and raised in a small coastal town. I earned my bachelor's degree from Appalachian State University and my master's degree from UNC Charlotte. Today, I live in Charlotte with my husband and our sweet kitty, Wanda. Outside of work, I enjoy art, music, the outdoors, and traveling. Having worked with students of all ages, I am so excited to be a part of the school community and look forward to working with the students here at JV Washam!

Hi, JV Washam families!

I couldn’t be more excited to be joining the JV Washam family!This opportunity is especially meaningful because my own children attended JV Washam, so being back here feels a little like coming home.

I’ve been with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools for the past 11 years. I spent my first nine years as an elementary art teacher before following my heart into school counseling, and this will be my third year as a school counselor. Every step of my journey has reinforced one thing—I absolutely love working with elementary students.

I truly believe these early years lay the foundation for a child’s future. When children feel safe, supported, and emotionally healthy, they’re better able to learn, grow, build confidence, and discover who they are. Helping students thrive as whole people is my greatest passion.

My family and I live in Cornelius, and when I’m not at school, I can usually be found at a baseball field cheering on my boys or hiking a nearby trail. I also recently became a certified yoga instructor and enjoy sharing mindfulness and wellness practices whenever I can.

I can not wait to get to know each of you, build strong relationships with our students and families, and become part of this wonderful community. Here’s to an amazing year of learning, growing, and making memories together. I look forward to meeting you all soon!

Hi! My name is Mrs. Rude, and I am so excited to be teaching Kindergarten at J.V. Washam this year! I've been teaching for 13 years and love helping young learners grow in confidence and curiosity. Over the years, I've had the opportunity to teach Kindergarten, First, and Second Grades and I am thrilled to be back in Kindergarten this year! I grew up in Ohio and earned my degree from Bowling Green State University. My family and I now live in Davidson. My husband and I have two boys, ages 8 and 9, who keep us very busy! I'm looking forward to a fantastic year filled with learning, laughter, and new adventures!

- Friday, May 29- 3-5 ELA EOG
- Monday, June 1- 3-5 Math EOG
- Tuesday, June 2- 5th Science EOG

We ask that there be no early pick ups for students in grades 3-5 during testing (8:00 AM- approx 12:00 PM). Please make sure your child gets a good night’s rest, eats a healthy breakfast, and has a somewhat relaxing morning. We ask that lunch visitors not visit from May 28-June 3 due to adjusted schedules and lunch times.

Wow! 7 years ago these young people walked the halls of Washam as 5th graders and now they will walk the big stage and move on to change the world. Congrats Husky Hawks! We are super proud of you!
