When we say “You never know what you may be working on in Ag Power” you really never know! Students today began a work based project of repairing an undercarriage on a bulldozer! After introducing our unit on preventative maintenance, students learned first hand the parts to a tracked equipment’s undercarriage and how to break it all down to perform routine maintenance on heavy equipment! Everyone had dirty hands and a big smile by the end of the day! At ACTC, we learn REAL skills that equate to marketable workforce talents so students can succeed in life! If you know a student that likes to turn wrenches, send them to see us! We’d love to have them in the program.

These ladies and gentlemen worked hard this year fighting against two weeks of ice storms, and a week of cyber attacks that took away from their practice times, but they worked hard when they could.
We competed in opening and closing, welding, and ag mechanics but unfortunately it wasn’t our year. As advisors, we are still super proud of the hard work they put into this competition and we know how difficult it is to advance out of our district level events! Congratulations to those teams that advanced! We wish you all the best of luck representing our district at state! Time to focus on the next competitive events and regroup for next year in these events.

The Alcorn County Calf Scramble Trophy comes home to ACTC FFA for the first time ever!!!! Great job last night (Micah Haynie, Dalton Brake, and Corey Norton) getting the 3rd place catch and tonight’s 2nd place winners (Dillon Johnson, Landen Basden, and Hank Robbins). They caught a feisty calf but held on to it to pull out an overall win for the center! Everyone seemed to really enjoy the competition and it was definitely a hard fought victory! We are very proud and excited to house the traveling trophy for the year!

ACTC FFA students Dalton Brake, Landen Basden, Riley Dunn, Gage West, Katlyn Duncan, Destiny Wilburn, Paisley Henry, Jerah Bivens traveled to Jackson for Legislative Day at the Capitol, where they toured the Mississippi State Capitol and heard from Andy Gipson, Brad Mattox, Bubba Carpenter and Rita Potts Parks.

Interested in trees🌲🌳... join us Tuesday, January 27 at 5:30 pm for an interest meeting to form a Forestry Judging Team. We will be collaborating with FFA and working to prepare youth for upcoming forestry competitions as well as their futures as we are all directly or indirectly affected by forestry.

ACTC FFA had a great day today at the skills Federation. The welding team (Dillon Johnson, Jamison Gathings, Gage West, and Gage Vick) brought home the 1st place trophy for the center to make it us two time champs in our federation! They move on to district in May! Unfortunately, our tractor driving and tool ID teams came up short, but we had an AWESOME turnout this year with 13 schools represented at Federation and almost 90 students competing.

Ag Power wrapped up a cool project this week and students signed their names on their work! We fabricated an underground storm shelter from start to finish. Students began by developing a design idea, reading a concept drawing, estimating materials, creating a cut sheet, and then moved into production. At this point, students worked to fabricate the needed components using the CNC plasma table. Once all parts were ready, they had to practice safe rigging to properly lift the components into place and then the fun part began….. WELDING and LOTS of it. Students performed grove welds, butt joints, and fillet welds in all 4 positions and had to coordinate the project among three different classes so that it went smoothly.
In the end, students got to see a project go from the design phase to completion and learned valuable skills that could be used in the real world to make money in their own business right here in our community!
Great things are still to come for the year! Stay tuned for the next project and if you see one of these young leaders, be sure to tell them good work!

We’d like to congratulate the ACTC FFA students that competed at the Federation Platform contests today. Everyone did an awesome job representing the center and showed awesome leadership skills in making this year’s competitions a success.
The following students participated:

Sr. Opening/Closing Team - 3rd place (moving on to district)

Competing in Sr. Prepared Public Speaking (Jon Hunter Rencher) and Sr. Extemporaneous Speaking (Destiny Wilburn) both came up a little shy of the podium, but had an awesome learning experience.

ACTC’s Riley Dunn also did an amazimg job opening the session as Federation President.

Congrats to all for a job well done, and for representing the center in such a great way!!!!

ACTC FFA chapter officers for the 2025-26 year are working hard to make things great for the chapter.
The officers have reached out to members to form committees, plan events, and are working on some awesome things for the year.
