Days 7 & 8

Two days in one. Yesterday started early with Badminton. Not the game we learned in Elementary school PE! So fast paced! Saw all the Women’s Doubles Quarterfinals so saw the 8 best teams in the world! And a few Men’s singles matches.

Then off to Caen by high speed train a nice meal (after watching the Women’s Gymnastics All Around on TV) and a good nights rest.

Then this morning all day Normandy Tour operated by the Mémorial de Caen museum. Started with a personal 3 hour tour with a guide for just the two of us (very nice) of the entire Mémorial de Caen museum. Picked up a few more tour members and off to Pointe du Hoc, Omaha Beach and the American Cemetery at Omaha Beach.

Saw where the Rangers climbed cliffs to secure the big guns at Pointe du Hoc then touched the beach and water (and some shells) at Omaha Beach and finally the American cemetery. All very solemn and respectful of the great sacrifice that was the start of freeing Europe. Learned what really happened before, during and after D-Day.

Now high speed train back to Paris as the sun sets.

PS: We are averaging right at 5 miles walking per day (50 miles so far). Thank goodness for the fantastic Metro and Bus system.
