GRAMMY-winning drummer and composer Dafnis Prieto blends his Cuban heritage with a forward-looking musical vision. A master storyteller and MacArthur “Genius” Fellowship recipient, Prieto crafts musical narratives through beautiful melodies and powerful rhythms.
After sold-out seasons with guests like Chucho Valdés, Michel Camilo, and Gema y Pavel, this year’s concert will feature an exciting repertoire of new compositions by Dafnis Prieto, alongside selections from Prieto’s GRAMMY-winning album Back to the Sunset—all brought to life by this powerhouse ensemble, not to be missed.

Music expresses life. A uniquely personal musical voice is something AI cannot replicate. For this concert, the Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra will perform music by composers from Stephen Guerra’s studio jazz writing program. Each will share an impactful life experience expressed through their own musical prism.

This year’s album, The Centennial Set, celebrates the 100th birthday of the University of Miami with 5 compositions and arrangements, all written by members of the band.

For the second year in a row, the Frost Jazz Trombone Ensemble was selected as the winner of the American Trombone Workshop National Jazz Trombone Ensemble Competition! 🥇 They are in Washington, D.C. this week to perform at the workshop, hosted by the U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own.” Congratulations to our students!
