One of the most common questions I get is: “What do I do about my kid’s school devices. They are out of control.”
Many of you are feeling this, and yes, they are out of control. Just as with kids and phones a decade ago, we had good intentions — get kids used to technology!
But most teachers, educators, and parents are finding out that ed tech is just too distracting. Computers and tablets are made for many, many things, and the apps sit there, beckoning with distractions. YouTube videos, group chats, games, and p**n are a common part of ed tech use. Schools try to limit apps, but kids find ways.
Part of the problem is that many national and state exams require schools to use Chromebooks and other ed tech. Ed tech is not entirely up to individual schools or districts.
Yet changes can be made, limits placed, use minimized. Note how happy the students in this article are with the new rules.
If you are concerned about your kid’s ed tech, you are probably one of many parents who feel the same.
