Frost Opera Theater presents Ralph Vaughan Williams’ haunting one-act opera Riders to the Sea, a poignant meditation on loss, resilience, and the enduring power of the sea. Set against the stark beauty of the Aran Islands, the opera tells the story of Maurya, a mother who has lost nearly all the men in her family to the ocean’s unforgiving force. With its deeply expressive score and intimate storytelling, Riders to the Sea offers audiences a moving exploration of grief and acceptance, brought to life by the exceptional artistry of Frost’s rising performers.

Music Director Jenny Snyder@snidejenny leads the production, with Linus Ip conducting and Ellie Lee .lucette_ at the piano, under the program direction of Jeffrey Buchman.

A special aspect of this production is that our Frost Opera students directed the show under the guidance of Professor Buchman. This production will be presented twice. The performance on the 22nd is directed by Frost Opera students Caitlin Turner (M.M.) and Julia Woodring (D.M.A.) .woodring
Each performance offers a unique interpretive perspective on Vaughan Williams’s evocative work, making this a special opportunity to experience the opera in two distinct stagings.
