The University of Miami Debate Team is housed in the Wolfson School of Communication at the Universi

It is the philosophy of the UM Debate Team that excellence is achieved through intensity of work effort and commitment, and that competitive success follows naturally from the achievement of excellence. Debate should help develop and promote citizenship, advocacy, and activism. We value and promote diversity in team composition, argument style and selection, team activities, and all decision making.

Congratulations to our amazing Policy Debates, who on Friday crushed their debates against GSU and Stamford! Mollie Blank and Gabriela Hernandez came out as 1st Place and Top Team overall! Individually, Leah Castaneda earned a 3rd place Rookie Speaking position in her very first tournament! Mollie Blank earned Top Speaker for the tournament. Blessing Iyiegbu earned the 4th place Speaking award and Gabriela Hernandez earned the 2nd place Speaking Award. So proud of our incredible debaters! ✨💯🤩🏆

Congratulations to UM's debate team of Kerra Masso and Artem Sviridov making it to the Octafinal Round of the United States Universities Debating Championship, the National Championship for British Parliamentary style debate.

This tournament was originally scheduled for April, but was moved to this weekend. Of 150 of the country’s best BP debate teams, our team advanced into the round of 32.

This is an outstanding achievement, and the second consecutive year in which UM has advanced into the “playoffs” (the elimination rounds) at USUDC Nationals.
