Founded March 5, 1937 the Beta Tau chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia is one of the oldest collegiate chapters of the Fraternity. As the first men’s fraternal organization at the University of Miami, it helped establish many of the on campus traditions including O-Cheer and the dedication of the Alma Mater Plaque that can be seen in the UC breezeway. The Beta Tau chapter has brought many notable mem

bers into the rich history of the fraternity. The Luciano Pavarotti, former music school dean Ken Moses, Sam Pilafian (newly confirmed member of Boston Brass), Jay Pearson (former president of the University of Miami), Henry King Stanford (former president of the University of Miami) are all members of the Beta Tau Chapter. Most recently, the accomplished jazz and pop artist Ben Folds was initiated in Fall of 2015. While many members originate from the the music school, the fraternity boasts members from virtually every college or major at the University including Engineering, Poetry, Biology, Neuroscience, Communications, and even the medical school to name a few.

Founded this past semester by brother Jason Fieler, Golden Voices is a student-led barbershop chorus made up of many PMA brothers and other UM students. After placing 2nd at the Sunshine District Spring Chorus Contest, they’re now working toward competing at the International BHS Convention in St. Louis! 🎤🎶💛

The brothers of Beta Tau are proud to announce that our 2025–2026 Sinfonian of the Year is Jason Fieler!

Jason Fieler (F22) has been an outstanding brother, musician, and leader throughout his time in Beta Tau. A Media Scoring & Production major with a minor in Composition, Jason is a talented multi-instrumentalist whose impact can be felt throughout both the chapter and the Frost community.

Outside of Sinfonia, Jason has been involved in BisCaydence, Golden Voices, and the American Choral Directors Association. His passion for vocal music and barbershop has helped define the sound and culture of Beta Tau over the past several years. He founded the a ca****la group Golden Voices, led and participated in numerous vocal groups that competed at the Sunshine District Barbershop Convention in St. Augustine, and arranged a vast majority of the chapter’s charts. His creativity and musical leadership have played a huge role in shaping countless performances and traditions within the fraternity.

Within Beta Tau, Jason has served as Secretary, Music Director across multiple terms, and Brotherhood Chair for three consecutive years. Beyond his leadership positions, he has been a constant source of support, friendship, and guidance for the brotherhood, always willing to be there for anyone who needed him.

This past year, Jason released his 10th album of original music, “Much Different Now,” continuing to showcase his dedication as a composer, arranger, and performer.

Following graduation, Jason plans on becoming a professional vocal arranger and contemporary band music director. The brothers of Beta Tau are incredibly proud of everything he has accomplished, and we are excited to see where his future takes him.
