SWIPE 🔛 Here’s a Historical Fact on Hispanic Heritage Month! As students participating in the process of academia, we’re proud to be Hispanic Americans part of the Peruvian Diaspora. As such, we’re all proud to know that the original universities in the Americas come from our Hispanic heritage. The first/original university of The Americas, New World, or Western Hemisphere is the prestigious Universidad Mayor de San Marcos de Lima 🇵🇪 founded on May 12th 1551 by a Cédula Real. A university that has operated in continuity even during Peru’s independence. It’s amazing 🤯 to realize how many of our sister countries also have universities founded nearly a century before the first British colonial colleges of North America: 🇩🇴 República Dominicana, 🇲🇽 México, 🇨🇴 Colombia, 🇦🇷 Argentina, 🇪🇨 Ecuador, 🇧🇴 Bolivia, 🇨🇱 Chile… following up to the XVIII century 🇬🇹 Guatemala, 🇻🇪 Venezuela, 🇨🇺 Cuba, 🇵🇾 Paraguay, 🇵🇦 Panama etc. Take a look when our first universities were established, you’ll be surprised. Be proud of your heritage and LOVE absolutely every aspect of it.. these historical facts need to be in our educational system
