Lampasas ISD School Health Up to date health information and education provided by the Lampasas ISD School Health Department

Dear Lampasas ISD Parents and Guardians,

At Lampasas ISD, the health and safety of our students is always our top priority. After careful review and recommendation by our School Health Advisory Council (SHAC), the district has approved updated guidelines regarding energy drinks and other high-caffeine products on all K–12 campuses.

Our goal is simple: to help keep students healthy, safe, and ready to learn.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children and adolescents avoid energy drinks because of their high caffeine content and other additives. These products can affect a student's developing heart, brain, and nervous system and may cause rapid heart rate, increased blood pressure, anxiety, sleep problems, and difficulty concentrating in the classroom. Many energy drinks and caffeine products are also labeled as "Not recommended for children" or "Not intended for individuals under the age of 18."

Because of these health concerns, canned energy drinks and caffeine pouches are not permitted on any Lampasas ISD campus. Please ensure that your student does not bring these items to school. Students with open canned energy drinks will be asked to dispose of them, while unopened energy drinks and caffeine pouches, including products such as GR1NDS, will be confiscated.

Lampasas ISD is proud that every campus has earned recognition as a Heart Safe School. As part of that commitment, we strive to educate students and families about healthy choices that support lifelong heart health and overall wellness.

During the 2026–2027 school year, the Lampasas ISD School Health Department will provide age-appropriate educational opportunities for students across our campuses to learn about the effects of caffeine on the body, brain, and heart. Students will also learn about the potential health impacts of excessive and long-term caffeine consumption, empowering them to make informed, healthy choices that support their overall well-being.

We encourage students to bring a reusable water bottle each day and choose water as their primary beverage throughout the school day.
