Summer break? Not for Child Nutrition! Our team is out connecting with families at the Pre-K Fair, learning from Texas cattle ranchers; tasting, exploring, and bringing back fresh ideas to make next school year even more fun, flavorful, and exciting for our students. Big things are cooking!

A $4.70 coffee is gone in minutes.

But in school nutrition, that same $4.70 is expected to help feed a student.

Behind every tray is a team stretching every dollar, because every student deserves a meal, a smile, and someone making sure they are taken care of!

What can you buy with $4.70?

A latte. A bag of chips.

Or: a complete school lunch, meeting strict federal nutrition standards requiring fruits, vegetables, whole grains, protein and milk.

That’s right! Schools get just $4.70 to cover the cost of a lunch.

After paying for staff, equipment, utilities, supplies, and federal compliance, less than half goes to the actual food.

And every single morning, school cafeteria teams are showing up anyway.

💬 Share this if you think the people feeding 30 million kids deserve more than this.

💬 And share in the comments what did your team serve in your schools? Let’s see what you make possible!

Today, we had an awesome time at the 5th Grade Health Fair at Richard J. Lee Elementary! Our Coordinator/Dietitian (Haley) and Assistant Director (Alicia) had the opportunity to teach students about nutrition, healthy choices, and how food fuels both the body and mind. We love creating fun, engaging ways to connect with students beyond the cafeteria and help inspire lifelong healthy habits!

Taste testing at Austin Elementary School was a POPPIN’ good time! Chef A and Haley teamed up to let students try the NEW Tasty Brands Cheese Pizza Poppers and the reactions did not disappoint! Lots of smiles and plenty of students asking for seconds. There is nothing better than seeing students excited about school meals while helping us decide what could be next for CISD Child Nutrition!
