Alan Vuong is an Honors Biology, AP Biology, and Honors Chemistry teacher. Oliver Rock teaches Astronomy, AP and Honors Physics, and Honors Anatomy. Between them, they teach seven courses and carry the bulk of the science program at NTH@C — and they’ve been dynamite for New Tech.
This year, they also took on moving the chemical storage room from the old building to the new one, coordinating and cataloging everything needed for this year and for future learners.
They worked through planning for the year and adjusting classes amid staffing difficulties from summer changes, and both have been flexible and willing to help in any way they could. Our learners are receiving a quality science education, and these two teachers are at the heart of it. They stay late and come early. They set up and tear down labs over and again, given how many prep periods they manage.
They’ve also taken on making sure learners have what they need to create projects and art from the makerspace, and they’re always willing to lend a hand or collaborate. Step into their classrooms and you’ll see them engaging learners and pushing kids into the cycle of inquiry and investigation. We are a better school and district because of how much they give to ensure a world-class experience for their learners.
