New Statewide Policy on Personal Electronic Devices

Dear Coos Bay Parents and Community Members,

We’re posting this today to share important information about a new statewide policy on personal electronic devices in schools.

As part of a new executive order from Governor Kotek, all Oregon school districts, including Coos Bay, are required to implement a policy to limit the use of cell phones, smartwatches, and other personal devices during the school day.

We know this is a big change, and we want to make sure you have all the details. We've attached a letter that explains what this policy will look like for our students starting September 2, 2025, and why this change is being made.

We encourage you to read the letter to understand how the new policy will affect your student and learn about the research behind this statewide initiative.

Congratulations Mr. Roberts!

COOS BAY, OR – July 24, 2025 – The Coos Bay School District Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Gary Roberts as Interim Superintendent for a one-year term, effective immediately. This decision was made with a focus on ensuring continued stability within the district and maintaining the positive trajectory of current academic achievement.

Mr. Roberts is a familiar and respected figure within the Coos Bay School District community, having been the runner-up in last year's comprehensive superintendent search. His prior participation in the entire rigorous screening process, which included extensive interviews and evaluations, provided the Board with a deep understanding of his qualifications and commitment to the district.

The Coos Bay School District Board of Directors is confident that Mr. Roberts will discharge the duties of this office with diligence and care. His proven understanding of our district's needs and his dedication to educational excellence make him an ideal choice to lead us through this interim period. The Board believes his appointment will allow us to seamlessly continue our focus on student success and the progress we've made in academic achievement.

Hello Marshfield Families,

Fall sports are approaching quickly, and we are excited to get the season underway! As a reminder, all students must have a current sports physical on file to participate in any sport at Marshfield Junior High or Marshfield High School this year.

Please schedule your student’s sports physical prior to the start of their season.

We are offering two convenient opportunities for sports physicals here on the Marshfield campus with the Waterfall Community Health Mobile Unit:

Tuesday, August 12th – Marshfield High School, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Tuesday, August 19th – Marshfield Junior High, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

We encourage you to take advantage of these on-campus dates to ensure your student is ready to participate.

Canceled! Poor Pigeon is very sad. He was all loaded up in his carrier and ready to be transported to his new home and they canceled! The app was sent late yesterday, approved quickly. We talked to them about logistics. It worked out since our transport driver was headed towards their town. The paperwork was done. Several people were involved to make this all happen. Everything was set. Then boom, our hearts sank for the lil guy!
