As a Teacher/Advocate, you'll play an important role in creating safe, nurturing, and engaging classroom environments while partnering with families to support children's growth and development.

Dear Families,

Summer is just around the corner, and Coos Bay Public Schools is thrilled to announce the return of our Free Summer Lunch Program! From June 22nd through August 28th, we will be providing nutritious, free meals to all children ages 1 to 18.

📌 What you need to know: There are no income requirements or sign-ups necessary. Just show up at any of our designated stops or school sites to grab a delicious lunch. There is a limit of one meal per person, per day.

🚌 Exciting News for 2026: We’re Expanding!
To ensure we can reach even more families across our community, we have added a second delivery van and an entirely new route! Check out the flyer below to find the times and locations most convenient for you:
Van Route #1: Serving spots from M'Ocean Mobile Park starting at 10:45 AM through Barview Market at 12:20 PM.

Route #2 (NEW!): Serving spots from Lighthouse Charter starting at 10:45 AM through Mingus Park/Pool at 12:15 PM.

School Sites: Stop by Madison Elementary, Eastside Elementary, or Marshfield Jr. High anytime between 11:00 AM and 12:30 PM for daily service.

This week, our Port Orford preschoolers had an exciting kindergarten transition field trip to Driftwood Elementary School where they met students and staff, participated in circle time, learned new songs, sang familiar favorites, toured the classroom alongside current kindergarten students, and enjoyed lunch in the cafeteria with their new friends. 🍎📚

The excitement continued all the way back to our Head Start site, where students couldn’t wait to share how much fun they had and all about their new school adventure!

To help prepare for the trip, students practiced neighborhood walking safety skills, including walking in a line while holding onto a rope, staying safely on sidewalks, stopping before crossings and parking lots, watching for traffic, and following teacher directions. Our new reflective safety vests were a huge help and even received compliments from the Driftwood staff, who loved how easy they made it to identify our preschoolers on campus. 🦺

A big thank you to our parent volunteer who joined us for the trip and has already offered to help again on the next visit! We are so proud of our students and grateful for the partnership with Driftwood Elementary School as we help prepare our children for a smooth and exciting transition to kindergarten. 💙
