Paramedicine is a broad career field and very frequently we forget just how many opportunities there are for paramedics. This is a contract position for paramedics to provide healthcare for astronauts, as an example. Pretty neat πŸ™‚.

Here is the first accelerated EMT cohort in action. This picture shows our students in the middle of the best lab of the year. You can see the students surrounding a heart and a pair of pig lungs that are connected to our ventilator. This gives them a valuable perspective of what patient anatomy looks like during critical resuscitation attempts. They also had a pair of deer lungs donated to them from a hunter so that they could see what damaged lungs look like in comparison to whole lungs. 🫁🫁🫁

While we are sharing stories about the new Fire Science and EMT-B lab let's also talk about this!

Yesterday Southwestern's EMS department was lucky enough to have a large group of high school students come visit all the way from Klamath Falls. Here are some action shots of our EMS staff putting on a demonstration of the basics of advanced cardiac life support.

As usual, visitors come for the show but stay to push buttons in the ambulance πŸš‘ 😁.
