This position is designed to teach several 100 level EMS classes and to have the responsibility of clinical coordinator. The clinical coordinator duties are approx 1/3 of the workload. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to, being the liason between SOCC and several hospitals and EMS agencies and monitoring student documentation requirements in alignment with COAEMSP/CAAHEP and state accreditation practices.

Paramedicine is a broad career field and very frequently we forget just how many opportunities there are for paramedics. This is a contract position for paramedics to provide healthcare for astronauts, as an example. Pretty neat π.

Here is the first accelerated EMT cohort in action. This picture shows our students in the middle of the best lab of the year. You can see the students surrounding a heart and a pair of pig lungs that are connected to our ventilator. This gives them a valuable perspective of what patient anatomy looks like during critical resuscitation attempts. They also had a pair of deer lungs donated to them from a hunter so that they could see what damaged lungs look like in comparison to whole lungs. π«π«π«

Yesterday Southwestern's EMS department was lucky enough to have a large group of high school students come visit all the way from Klamath Falls. Here are some action shots of our EMS staff putting on a demonstration of the basics of advanced cardiac life support.
As usual, visitors come for the show but stay to push buttons in the ambulance π π.
