Yesterday was a big day for our South Elementary Robotics Teams. They had guest speakers from Frederick Meijer Gardens to talk about biodiversity and how they solve problems using data and mapping!

Each year the FLL teams create a presentation around solving a problem related to the theme of the game. This years game is about biodiversity. Getting a chance to talk to real botanists about how they address biodiversity concerns and what problems they are facing will help both teams to come up with creative solutions!

Thank you Mrs. Navia for arranging this amazing learning opportunity for our young engineers!

Thunderstruck robotics was very excited to receive our field kit from today! They got busy building the different parts of the field so that we will be able to practice with accurate game pieces. Other than one missing part it is coming together nicely!

This week that kids have accomplished so much! One of the major tasks has been working on a prototype for our launcher. This video shows some of that progress. The students are launching the game piece with flywheel on a motor. It is kind of like a pitching machine. They have code to set a target rpm for the wheel. Once the wheel is up to speed they have another mechanism to push the ball into launcher. They definitely do not need to be able to shoot the ball all the way to the ceiling but it sure is fun to watch!

Today some of our veteran Thunderstruck team members helped Mr. Schoenborn with a presentation about our team during the middle school WIN time! Thank you Mr. Stahl for inviting us to talk about this exciting new season of FTC robotics!

After the presentation the team walked over to the high school for practice. We got more students signed up to the team, worked on some prototype mechanisms, dove into coding, and got new members some driving time!
