The Coopersburg Area Society of Model Engineers is a group of Model Rail enthusiasts, with their headquarters in the basement of the Coopersburg Borough Building, Main and State Sts. The group formed when the members of the former East Penn Model R.R. Club from Emmaus, PA., and the Bux-Mont Model Engineers, from Quakertown PA., merged to create a new group. While still retaining the East Penn Mode

l Railroad Club Incorporation, the group operates under the name Coopersburg Area Society of Model Engineers. scale, DCC controlled walk around layout. Bench work was started in February 2006 and completed in 2011. With all the main line track and turnouts installed, trains can operate on each of the three levels. Installation of scenery is well under way at several locations.

Layout update 4/7/26

We have not gotten any further plans as far as rehab or date in which we will be able to start our assessment from the insurance or contractors. While disappointing we are staying positive that we hope to receive many much needed updates to our facility.

We have set up a Venmo Account for those who wish to make a donation to help us with layout restoration. As you may know on Tuesday 11/11/25 a water pipe failed in Borough Hall above our layout room causing water damage to our ceiling and model railroad. The members of the Coopersburg Area Society of Model Engineers are looking forward to being able to restore our layout to operating condition in the months to come.

Just as a reminder the remaining of our 2026 open house dates have been canceled!

We are very diligently waiting to get back into our layout room to begin the assessments and any necessary repairs. We will update everyone as things begin to progress.

Just a reminder that our 2025 open house dates have been canceled due to our water issue from a few weeks back. We are still waiting on the OK to be able to go and do a preliminary assessment of the railroad to see what the extent of damage has occurred.

Important Notice!

Unfortunately our open house dates have derailed!

We want to make sure they everyone is aware that due to a recent water pipe break we are being forced to cancel our Nov and Dec 2025 Open house dates. We are not sure what exactly is to come for the Jan 2026 dates but until we can get back with the borough and asses the damage to the layout before we can make any decisions.

We ask that you please keep an eye on our social media accounts, and our website for the most recent up to date info on our coming open houses. Unfortunately they had already been printed on the model railroad open house “Green Sheet” and we ask for everyone to share the word that the 2025 open houses are being canceled, we would hate to see people come out for the model railroad to be closed.

On November 15th we received news that a pipe burst in the ladies restroom on the main floor of the building we occupy (above the club).

We don't know how long before it was detected but we think it may have been a day or two. Needless to say water takes the path of least resistance. So we took on some damage. We are not allowed in the building until we are given permission from the borough to do so.

With that being said it has been decided to cancel all open house shows for the 2025 season so we can evaluate the damage first hand and decide on the appropriate course of action.

We will look into the January 2026 shows and see if they are possible.

I know many look forward to these shows around the holiday season and I can assure you no-one is more disappointed than we are.

Open House season is right around the corner and the trains are ready to go! Open house dates are as follows.

11/29 6-8PM

12/6, 12/7, 12/13, 12/14 2025
1/3, 1/4, 1/10, 1/11 2026

We will be Open and trains will be running from 12-4pm on all days, admission is free, donations are graciously accepted.

NEW THIS YEAR! A scavenger hunt for kids young and old alike, Find the 12 hidden items on the layout as you take the self guided tour.

A lot has been accomplished this year on the layout and we are all very excited to share it with the public, we hope to see you this Open House Season!

CASME would like to congratulate Joe Furniss, the winner of this years open house train set raffle! (Pictured with Dave Long (Left) CASME President and Karl Wagonseller (right) CASME Vice President) He stopped down 2 weeks ago and was able to pick up his train set along with take another look at the layout more in-depth and ask the questions he had about both the club and layout. Congrats Joe!
