Project Perch: Florida Burrowing Owls Project Perch's mission it to protect and nurture the Florida burrowing owls. Safe burrows save owls! A 501(c)3 Not for Profit, volunteer based organization.

We create safe homes in protected places for South Florida's threatened burrowing owls. Project Perch is creating a real-life "hoot" in Broward County. Kelly Heffernan, an avian biologist, started Project Perch for the South Florida Audubon Society in 2008. Project Perch’s mission is to protect and nurture the owls in southeast Florida. Specifically, Project Perch:

- Provides protection by finding and educating “guardians” for as many owls as possible; and
- Counts the owls annually during the breeding season; and
- Promotes the population by working with landowners to provide Flood-Zone artificial burrow systems with safe nest boxes. Project Perch provides education and is dedicated to the preservation of the Florida burrowing owls.
