At Hickory, we never put growth before health. Student and family culture are almost impossible to recover when lost. They must be guarded. This is the promise we make to our families. Ever vigliant.

Today in Hall, we spent time again looking at George Washington's Rules of Civility and Decent Behavior in Society. Rule number 25 states: "Superfluous complements and all affectation of ceremony are to be avoided, yet where due they are not to be neglected." We are pleased to honor Asher's accomplishment, but are even more pleased with the knowledge that this young man will not respond with either arrogance or feigned humility. He will graciously accept due honor for his accomplishment, and we will earnestly give it. To whom much is given, much is required. We will require much of Asher in the coming years!

Please join us in congratulating Sophomore, Asher Herman, who has earned a place as a 2026 CLT Regional Scholar for the Southeast.

The Classical Learning Test is a standardized examination structured specifically for assessing qualitative and quantitative reasoning, using classical ed sources familiar to our students here at Hickory. The norm group for this test is already competitive, so this achievement is commendable.

Well done, Asher!

The end of the quarter brings the completion of many kinds of study. Enjoy this excerpt from a high school rhetoric speech on art:

"The goal of art is not to express your own inner tempestual spirit, but rather to express truth. If your piece is solely an emotional expression with no frame of truth, it is not adhering to the true purpose of art. In everything we create, the outcome should always point to a greater truth."

Raging battle in the 7th grade about the proper reading order of The Chronicles of Narnia.

**Publication order**
LWW
Caspian
Dawn Treader
Silver Chair
Horse and His Boy
Magician's Nephew
Last Battle

or, as one opinionated and well-informed student has dubbed,

"The Correct Order"
LWW
Caspian
Horse and His Boy
Dawn Treader
Silver Chair
Last Battle
Magician's Nephew

Chronological order doesn't even have a seat at the table.

What do you think?
