Tennessee Tech University will hold its annual String Symposium on Friday, October 23, 2026.

This event is open to high school students (grades 9–12) who play violin, viola, cello, bass, or guitar. Throughout the day, faculty will provide clinics and masterclasses focused on audition preparation, technique, and practice and performance tips.

Tennessee Tech University will hold its annual All-Star Instrumental Symposium on Thursday, October 1, 2026.

Emeritus Tuba Professor Winston R. Morris was recently honored at the Three Amigos Celebration held at the University of South Alabama. The celebration featured a Tennessee Tech Alumni Tuba Ensemble directed by alumnus Dan Davis, with distinguished alumni including Tennessee Tech's current Assistant Professor of Tuba, Dr. Preston Light. Congratulations to Professor Morris on this well-deserved recognition!

Kerry “Doc” Stone, a veteran Nashville musician, longtime member of the Grand Ole Opry house band and adjunct faculty member at Tennessee Tech University, will step down after 25 years as the university’s guitar instructor.

Over a career that spans decades, Stone has performed alongside legendary artists including Johnny Cash, The Judds and Dolly Parton and has played more than 1,500 performances with WSM’s Grand Ole Opry house band. He also maintained a private teaching studio for more than 40 years and counted country music star Alan Jackson among his former students.

One week left to register for Tennessee Tech's annual Live Audio Summer Academy on June 29, 2026. This one-day camp is led by our Live Audio Program Director, Dr. Eric Harris, and is designed for individuals (18 and older) who want to learn more about mixing sound for the marching arts, musical theatre, church, rock bands, and other large live performance events.

Price: $100
9:30am - 4:30pm

Includes lunch, snack, and course materials. Continuing education credits available.

Our students enjoyed a wonderful meal at the Summer Music Institute thanks to the generosity of Duck Pond Manor.

The percussion and piano students spent the week exploring rhythm, technique, ensemble performance, and repertoire across a wide variety of instruments. It was fun to watch their growth throughout the week, and their final performances showed just how much they accomplished.

We are grateful to Duck Pond Manor for supporting these students and helping make this week such a memorable experience.

Support from community partners like Grade-A Catering helped make this year's Tennessee Tech Summer Music Institute possible.

Woodwind students spent the week immersed in rehearsals, performances, and collaborative music-making. From chamber groups and like-instrument ensembles to jazz band and concert band, students challenged themselves musically and demonstrated tremendous focus and enthusiasm.

We're excited to recognize Domino's Pizza for supporting our Tennessee Tech Summer Music Institute and Summer Theatre Institute students.

Our voice and theatre students spent the week building confidence, developing performance/technical skills, and collaborating with peers. From rehearsals and workshops to performances and creative projects, they embraced every opportunity to learn and grow.

Our brass students spent the week working on chamber music, tone production, and musicianship. They played in like-instrument ensembles, jazz band, and concert band. Their energy and enthusiasm were evident throughout the camp experience.

We're grateful to Chick-fil-A Cookeville for helping keep our Tennessee Tech Summer Music Institute students energized throughout the week!

Our string students spent the week developing their musicianship through rehearsals, chamber music, and individual instruction. Their dedication and growth were incredible to watch, and they accomplished so much in just a few short days.
