August Overdose Awareness
💜 August is Overdose Awareness Month—a time to raise awareness, reduce stigma, remember those we have lost, and share information that can save lives. International Overdose Awareness Day is observed on August 31.

🚨 What should you do if you think someone is experiencing an overdose?

1️⃣ Call 911 immediately.
2️⃣ Give naloxone (Narcan) if available. Naloxone can reverse an opioid overdose and should be given as soon as possible when an opioid overdose is suspected.
3️⃣ Stay with the person and follow the 911 dispatcher’s instructions.
4️⃣ If they are unconscious but breathing, place them on their side to help prevent choking.
5️⃣ If they are not breathing normally, provide rescue breathing/CPR if you are able and follow the dispatcher’s instructions.
⚠️ When in doubt, treat it like an overdose. You never know when taking action could save a life.
🎓 Tennessee Tech’s Center for Addiction Prevention & Support (CAPS) is here to provide students with education, prevention resources, support, and connections to help promote healthier choices and a safer campus community.
💜 Know the signs. Know how to respond. Carry naloxone. Save a life.

Back-to-school means students may be carrying more than backpacks. Mental health challenges affect youth across Georgia, and NAMI Georgia is committed to making FREE mental health resources, education, and support available to students, families, educators, and school staff.

As students return to the classroom, it’s important that they know they’re not alone. Through education and support, we can help communities recognize the signs of mental health challenges and connect young people and their families with the resources they need to thrive. 💚

Your support helps NAMI Georgia continue providing these life-changing resources to youth across the state.

Looking for an opportunity to make a meaningful impact while helping shape the future of mental health care in the Upper Cumberland?

The Tennessee Tech Center for Addiction Prevention and Support (CAPS) is looking for an LMSW or LCSW Therapist to join our upcoming community mental health clinic.

This is an opportunity to do more than provide therapy. You’ll help expand access to free mental health and substance use services across the Upper Cumberland, work as part of a university-based clinical team, and help prepare the next generation of social workers as our clinic develops into a training site for MSW students.

LMSW required | LCSW preferred

Review of applications begins September 7, 2026.

Interested? Send your résumé, a brief statement of interest, and contact information for three professional references to [email protected].
