Our talented junior Cosmetology students in Mrs. Chestnut's class spent the afternoon creating a welcoming, professional salon experience as they pampered clients with relaxing shampoos and beautiful, creative hairstyles! Now in their third week of working with outside clients, these future cosmetology professionals are gaining valuable, hands-on experience while putting their classroom knowledge and technical skills into practice.
Under Mrs. Chestnut's guidance, our Navigators are developing the essential skills needed to succeed in the beauty industry.
One of the most exciting aspects of our ATA Cosmetology program is watching students grow from learning foundational techniques to confidently applying those skills with real clients. Each salon appointment is another opportunity to strengthen their abilities, build meaningful relationships, and prepare for future careers!

Learning came to life today in Mr. Webster's Chemistry class as our ATA Navigators participated in an exciting, hands-on laboratory investigation exploring ionic bonding, chemical reactions, and crystal structures! Students investigated how atoms form ionic bonds through the transfer of electrons, creating positively and negatively charged ions that attract one another to form ionic compounds.
During today's investigation, students carefully combined small amounts of hydrochloric acid (HCl) and sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO₃) to produce sodium chloride (NaCl), commonly known as table salt, along with water and carbon dioxide gas. After completing the chemical reaction and preparing their samples, students can examine the crystal structures of the sodium chloride they produced. Through this investigation, students will explore how the arrangement of ions contributes to the recognizable crystalline structure of salt.
A huge shoutout to Mr. Webster for creating meaningful, hands-on learning opportunities that challenge our students to think, investigate, and discover! At ATA, we believe learning should be engaging, relevant, and full of opportunities for students to apply their knowledge. Our Navigators aren't just learning about science; they're experiencing it!

Our Navigators save lives! Our health science majors sponsored the first of several blood drives of the year today. Our students showed up to support the needs of our communities by donating blood! Thank you to every student and staff member who participated!

Mrs. Moore's pre-engineering students are hard at work on their programming skills! Students were tasked with creating a set of commands that will allow their robot arm to move in 3 axes in conjunction with a conveyor belt. This type of scenario is similar to what students would encounter when working at a manufacturing facility!

Shout out to the Juniors in Medical Terminology Honors! In Mrs Mendez class the students were learning about the Digestive System.

Students were put in groups of 5 with one student being the team leader.
The additional 4 students in the group were given their part to draw to form the whole digestive system (ingestion, digestion, absorption, and elimination). They were told to be as specific as possible and asked to label all they can.

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month at ATA!

At ATA, we are proud to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, a special time to recognize and honor the rich histories, cultures, traditions, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans.

Our ATA Navigators have embraced the celebration with creativity and enthusiasm! We are incredibly proud of all of our advisory classes for participating in our friendly Hispanic Heritage Month Door-Decorating Contest! Students and teachers worked together to create colorful, meaningful displays that celebrate Hispanic culture, influential individuals, traditions, countries, and achievements.

Thank you to every advisory class for your hard work, teamwork, and school spirit! We love seeing our hallways filled with creativity while our students learn more about the diverse cultures that enrich our school, our community, and our world.

Building Thinkers in MATH!
We are proud to showcase our dedicated Math teachers from ATA, Loris High School, and Green Sea Floyds High as they collaborated and worked diligently to deepen their understanding of navigation tools within the Building Thinking Classrooms framework!
Through purposeful professional learning and collaboration, our teachers explored strategies designed to shift more of the thinking to students, helping them take greater ownership of their learning, persevere through challenging tasks, communicate their mathematical reasoning, and become more confident problem-solvers.
By intentionally using these navigation tools, our teachers are creating classrooms where students aren't simply looking for the right answer... they are thinking, questioning, collaborating, reasoning, and learning from one another!
We are grateful for educators who continue to learn, grow, and challenge themselves so they can provide meaningful learning experiences for our students. Great teaching builds great thinkers!
