From South Carolina to South Korea!
Coastal Carolina University Clarinet Choir – Dr. Eric Schultz, director
Elise Jennemann, Eb clarinet; Alec Pederson, Reilly Wellington, Bb clarinets; Faith Reilly, alto clarinet; Cody Sachs, Eric Schultz, bass clarinets
The CCU Clarinet Studio recently represented the university on the international stage at ClarinetFest 2026 in Incheon, South Korea, the world’s largest conference for clarinetists, educators, composers, and industry professionals. Led by Associate Professor of Clarinet Dr. Eric Schultz, the students earned the invitation through a competitive selection process based on the ensemble’s recent chamber concert recording. Their selection recognized the CCU Clarinet Studio as a top national studio and placed its students among a select group of elite university and conservatory ensembles invited to premiere new repertoire on a global stage. The achievement reflects the growing impact of Dr. Schultz’s initiative, The REP Project, and reinforces CCU’s role as a leading contributor to contemporary music and innovative undergraduate education.
During the festival, the students performed the world premiere of Jorge Sosa’s Són Para Coro de Clarinetes, participated in the Festival Clarinet Choir alongside musicians from around the world, attended performances and educational sessions presented by internationally renowned artists, and experienced Korean culture firsthand. The trip combined performance, undergraduate creative activity, professional networking, and global engagement, allowing students to contribute new music to the international clarinet community while building connections and gaining experiences that will shape their artistic and professional futures.
