If you are a family from Ossipee Central or Effingham Elementary UNH Extension Teacher, Joy Gagnon, invites you to attend this 6 week Slow Cooker Class on Tuesdays from 5:30-7:30pm at Effingham Elementary School from October 6-November 10. Families will receive a free slow cooker, eat a meal with their kids, and spend time preparing ingredients to take home each week. During the Nutrition Connections - UNH Extension lesson kids will be invited to join our 4-H staff for an activity.

Native Pollinators Program & Pollinator Habitat Improvement Project Volunteer Work Day
Thursday, October 22, 2026 |10:00am - 2:00pm

Learn how you can make your property more appealing and beneficial to native pollinators like bees, flies, beetles, hummingbirds, and moths.

Pollinators are vital to our food system, and with research showing significant declines in native species, we can all help native pollinators by considering their habitat needs as we landscape our properties.

Experts Wendy Scribner, Natural Resources Field Specialist with UNH Cooperative Extension and Debra Marnich, Stewardship Director of Chocorua Lake Conservancy, will explore the importance of native pollinators, share first-hand research experience and examples of how to create habitat for native pollinators.

In partnership with Green Mountain Conservation Group, UNH Extension, and Chocorua Lake Conservancy.

UNH Extension assembled the third annual Way Station NH Resource Day with food, supplies, and information for individuals with limited housing. Thanks to all the agencies involved in making this work. Cyclospora contamination has been at the top of producers' and consumers' minds. While uncommon, it is a known cause of foodborne illness in the U.S.

The good news: produce safety practices you already have in place to reduce contamination also help protect against Cyclospora.

Is it an invasive Species?

What is an invasive species? I often ask this question at the outset of any discussion on invasive plants. Common answers usually include familiar plants like Japanese knotweed, round leaf bittersweet (pictured), poison ivy, sumac, or even dandelion. We will get into the specifics of each of these plants later, although you may have already noticed that not all of these are invasive plants. So, what makes a plant invasive? For starters, the term invasive species is grounded in both science and policy.

Landowner Chainsaw Safety & Maintenance – Level 1

New Hampshire Timberland Owners Association (NHTOA) and UNH Extension welcome landowners and non-professional chainsaw users to register for this Level 1 Chainsaw Safety and Maintenance workshop. Learn basic chainsaw maintenance and care, inspection of personal protective equipment, hazard and situational awareness, and chainsaw safety best practices.

$150 for NHTOA members/$200 non-members

Learn the Art of Blueberry Pruning at Upcoming UNH Extension Demonstration in Wolfeboro!
