This past school year, HCS students read 68 million pages, and they're still going strong. They've already logged around 900 thousand pages this summer, and there's plenty of summer left. Don't forget to participate in our Summer Reading Challenge and log your pages in Beanstack ASAP!

📢📖Calling all rising 4th and 5th Graders!

Is your child a rising 4th or 5th grader? Do they love to read? Do they like to compete? Then Battle of the Books might be for them! Students who join our team read the books on the booklist and then
battle it out to see who knows the most about the books. It’s kind of like Jeopardy, but ten times better! We meet as a club after school to read and discuss the books. Then, we have a school-level competition. The winning team from the school travels to the district competition to battle all the other HCS elementary schools--for a trophy and, of course, bragging rights! If this sounds like something you might be interested in, you can go ahead and start reading these books this summer. Our Wildcats participated in an Epic Quest to kick off our Once Upon A Summer Reading!

They helped our Wizard unscramble her spell to put all the stories back together by completing challenges and using their story knowledge. They trained as knights and helped train the dragon. We celebrated those who have completed the 2025-26 Superintendent's Reading Challenge of reading 4,000 pages, and we kicked off our Summer Reading Challenge.

Wildcats recited the Royal Reading Promise: “I promise to read brave stories, magical tales, and adventurous books this summer!”

I can't wait to see the summer reading adventures they go on this summer!

Congratulations to our 2026 South Carolina Book Award Winners!

This week I had the pleasure of sharing some of our Wildcat Adventures with librarians across the state. I was also able to learn from some of the best Librarians across the state at our SCASL Library Conference. I cannot wait to try out some of the awesome new ideas I have learned.
