UPDATE: FOSTER HOME FOUND!
This story will break your heart ... but it has to be told.
SmokeyJoe almost made it out of his hopeless beginning to life ... he almost got away ... he and his littermates all had wonderful homes waiting for them in the northeast ... we had been working with these puppies and had given them wormer and their first shots ... when we went out to give them their second set of shots, there was precious SmokeyJoe ... waiting patiently to get out of there ... but it was not to be. The family had decided that SmokeyJoe was going to stay with them and be their dog. We did everything we could to talk them out of it because we knew he would have a miserable life in front of him ... but they would not consider releasing him to us. We are sure you can see where this story is headed ... within only a few weeks we get the call for help. SmokeyJoe's wonderful, loving owner ran over him with the pickup truck. Of course, there certainly was not enough money for any vetting for the puppy ... that money was being used for far more important things ... you know, like alcohol ... but now, with a major spinal injury, the owner was more than happy to sign him over to us.
Smokey was rushed to the Emergency Vet Clinic in Maumelle and the next day he went to Hillcrest for surgery. Now Smokey needs a quiet, calm place to recover for a few weeks and then, this handsome boy can and WILL get into the home he deserves. It's so sad he had to suffer so needlessly ...
Can you open your home to this pup for a few weeks?
His vet bill is just a few dollars shy of $1,000. If you would like to donate to help cover vetting expenses, simply go to our website at www.ootwrescue.org and click the DONATE button ... you can tag it for SmokeyJoe.
We would appreciate your sharing this story.

This AWESOME man is in need of a forever home. He was found by one of our wonderful clients, and has had a rough life from what we can tell. He had a huge wound on his side, which we repaired, and he was a trooper through his recovery. He’s a Labrador mix and weighs about 60 pounds right now. We estimate his age to be around 4-6 years. He’s been friendly with other dogs, and all people, and has not soiled his kennel run. He was recently neutered, vaccinated, started on heartworm prevention and microchipped. Do you have room in your heart and life for this great boy? Call the clinic for more information. 501-268-5558 **Feel free to share**

Naki’o is the first dog to ever receive four prosthetic legs after being found frozen in a puddle and developing frostbite. Amazing!
