Happy 100th Anniversary to Winnie the Pooh! 🥳 October 14, 1926 was the initial publication date for Winnie the Pooh, and Mother Goose was so happy to celebrate. 🧡 She visited Freedom Elementary today in her finest 1920s replica clothing and taught the students background information and fun facts about A.A. Milne, his son Christopher Robin, and all of the friends at Hundred Acre Wood. Then the students made graphite transfer drawings of Winnie the Pooh on canvas. How did you celebrate?

Ms. Frizzle visited Freedom Elementary today to teach students about Indigenous People's Day! Then she read them "Fry Bread," a beautiful book about food and community; it explores Native American history, family connections, identity, and shared traditions. Normally Ms. Frizzle would have had the students make their own fry bread, but the school has no kitchen! So instead, each student identified a family favorite food and made a mini cookbook of it, complete with their own illustrations. Now they all have keepsakes for their traditional food!

Last week, Mother Goose visited Freedom Elementary School as part of the schoolwide focus on Social Emotional Learning. She read students picture books on kindness, taught some sign language to go along with them, and then had all students decorate kindness rocks: each drew a picture or wrote a few words of what kindness means to them. The rocks were sealed with acrylic so they can stay outside. Today she was back and the students placed the rocks in the memorial garden at the front of the school for all visitors to see!

Happy Constitution Day! Martha Washington visited Freedom Elementary School to teach the students about both the U.S. Constitution and the New Hampshire Constitution. Did you know that New Hampshire was the 9th state to ratify the U.S. Constitution, making it official? And did you also know that New Hampshire has had three constitutions? The current one is from 1783 and has been amended (updated) 146 times! After the lesson, she talked with students about the importance of writing their own classroom constitutions, and then every student planned and designed their own classroom flags to represent them!
